The Victorinox Swiss Army Story

In 1884, Karl Elsener opened a cutlery workshop in Ibach-Schwyz, Switzerland with the support of his mother Victoria. Just like that, Victorinox Swiss Army was born.

In 1891, Elsener and his coworkers deliver knives for soldiers in the Swiss Army for the first time. Six years later, the company legally protected the names Swiss "Officer's" and "Sport Knife." The model later became known as the Original Swiss Army Knife.

Following Elsener's mother's death in 1909, the company incorporated her name into the brand and unveiled its well-known cross and shield emblem. Elsener arrived at the name Victorinox by combining the name Victoria with "inox," an abbreviation of the French word for rust-resistant steel, "inoxydable."

In 1989, Victorinox officially entered the timepiece business in the United States under the brand name Swiss Army. In 1999, Victorinox partners with the American TRG Group in St. Louis and enters into the international travel gear market. In 2001, the company launched a fashion line in the U.S. with a collection that delivers technical and tailored styling capturing the brand’s essence of practical luxury. If that wasn't enough, in 2007 Victorinox sets up Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, and in 2009 Victorinox Swiss Unlimited was launched.

I recently got this watch, and all I can say is that it's everything I'd been looking for in a mid-range watch: Automatic, see-through back, sturdy, sapphire, excellent movement (Valjoux), and gorgeous. If I were bolder, I would compare it to a Breitling.
All-in-all, the best watch I've seen under $1000. I'm glad I have one.

I've owned a few Swiss Army watches over the years. They were all quartz watches and kept impeccable time. I even own a Rolex and it keeps fairly good time. This Swiss Army automatic watch keeps the best time of all. Automatics usually sacrifice a bit of accuracy for the convenience of never having to change a battery. I have owned a few autos in my time including the Rolex, a Tag Heuer, a Breitling, and a few less expensive ones.

This Swiss Army V25159 takes a back seat to none of them, in fact is the most accurate watch I own. It is built like a tank but is very stylish much like the Rolex and Breitling. One of the functions I was kind of surprised about was that the buttons for the chronograph and tachymeter had to be unscrewed to be used. At first I didn't think I'd like that but got used to it quickly and actually believe that the purpose is twofold- first to enhance the waterproof qualities and also you don't want the buttons pushed by accident like often happens on my Tag and Rolex.

I also love the band and clasp, which is very tasteful and different than any I've owned before. All in all I am very happy that I purchased this watch and use it daily. I can't remember a day that I didn't get at least someone commenting on how much they like it.

The price may seem a bit steep but not for what you are getting. If I compare it to my Rolex or Breitling it stacks up great for about a 1/6th of the cost. A real steal!
