The original Swiss Army Watch tells time well. And continues to tell time well despite the lack of attention I give it. This, of course, seems trite, but it is a watch, without frills, and it performs its functions better than watches costing significantly more, usually loaded with features of dubious utility. This meets my standards for success. Aesthetically, it will not appeal to everyone, but is only out of place in the most formal settings. The only purely decorative feature is the Victorinox Swiss cross at the 12 O'clock position of the dial and the red ring around the dial. Both are tasteful, restrained, and to my liking, but I can see how they wouldn't fit in an extremely stiff corporate setting or a tuxedo event.


Pros:
-It has maintained correct time +/- 1 minute for over six months at a stretch.
-Battery life has been great, 5+ years.
-It is easy to read, with well-sized, strongly contrasted, and clear markings.
-The luminous stuff on the hands and hour markings is as bright as you will find without investing in a watch with tritium markings.
-It's light. I barely notice it on my wrist, to the point where I have gotten distracted thinking I had forgotten a watch until I checked. I think this comes from the synthetic (plastic) case, which has been absolutely trouble free.
-The crystal has held up well despite a fairly active lifestyle. This is not trivial, given the number of lesser watches that I have broken over the years.


Cons:
-The date must be manually adjusted at the end of months of less than 31 days.
-Arguably, its lack of features (it tells time, has a sweep hand and a date window, luminous markings, and... um... er... looks nice and lasts well). This is not a con to me, but if one needs specialized functions (like a scuba diver, a triathelete, a vessel's skipper, etc) it could be seen that way.

Overall, a great watch and a worth while investment. Were I forced to choose a single watch for an urban or corporate environment, this one would be in the final three. The modest price and the less stiff/not overly formal appearance could carry the day for it.

I have owned this watch from the Swiss Army line for over eight years now. I have replaced the battery and the band a number of times but the watch itself is indestructible. I have worn this watch hard in industrial settings and the face has only a few scratches. The clear analogue numbers make it easy to tell time and the clean styling goes with almost anything from casual to formal. Normally I would not spend this amount of money on a watch, and admittedly my watch was a gift. But if the one I have ever dies, I would buy another just like it.

I received this watch as a gift for Christmas in 1997. This watch has been worn hard and has never failed! I replaced the band and battery twice and it is as good as new. I am very impressed with this watch!

The watch does exactly what I needed it to do: tell time accurately and take the beating of a hard days work. It's quiet (other Timex pieces are rather loud), and looks great. It's a little big for my wrist (I have small wrists), but it's easy to put a new hole through. The price is also hard to beat. It was shipped quickly and professionally. Highly recommended.

I purchased this watch nearly 25 years ago. I can't tell you how many batteries and watch bands it's been through, and the red ring has matured into a maroon/brown color, but it still keeps absolutely perfect time. I honestly don't know of any other object I have that has lasted as long as this watch has! Excellent product.

This watch is great when you want a lightweight quality watch. The nylon band is perfect for active sports; I wear mine skiing and biking. You can't beat the price!

I've owned this watch for over 12 years and only had to replace the band from normal wear 2X's. It's accuracy is outstanding. I've worn it when golfing, at the beach, and all my other casual activities. It's simple, not cheap, and performs like you would expect from Swiss Army.

I wore this watch for almost 15 years until it's finally 'broken' last year. It is a very simple looking watch but really reliable and durable.

I purchased this watch because I had broken my previous watch exactly like the one I just purchased. I have owned a Swiss Army Watch for about 21 years and it was working just fine until I fell and broke the case where the strap attaches. I am a bit hard on watches and my first one lasted thru thick and thin and always kept good time.
