5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLE, STYLISH, TOUGH
I just wanted a basic, understated, durable watch and thought this would fill the bill. It has. I just wanted a basic, understated, durable watch and thought this would fill the bill. It has. It's beautiful in a minimalist sort of way, with fluorescent numbers and hands, and a whisper quiet mechanism. Setting the time and date is simple and it keeps perfect time. The cover of the watch casing and the wrist band appear to be made of the same tough, black rubber, and enough holes are punched in the band to keep my wrist from sweating.

One aesthetic note: The face of the watch looks more elegant than the photos here. I think they either removed the crystal to reduce reflections in the photo or used a polarizing filter. Be advised that the clearly visible inner ring encircling the numbers in the photo is actually a 45-degree-ish beveled surface that completely disappears when the crystal is in place.

There was no savings buying this item through Amazon because the Canadian Supplier has no concept of the term Customer Service. I would suggest that if you intend to purchase through Amazon you do it through one of their suppliers that provides good customer service [STAY AWAY FROM WatchMe] ok eh?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and practical, February 2, 2009
By
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's Renegade Watch #24228 (Watch)
This is a great watch for the outdoors person, or it is good for weekend wear. It will look a little out of place with a suit or sport jacket/blazer.

I bought mine in 1994/1995 and it's only needed a few battery replacements.

4.0 out of 5 stars great watch, July 11, 2007
I love this watch, both me and my wife have it. It is simple, light weight, practical, causal and yet with a touch of class and elegance. Fantastic! Though the plastic band could be kind of expensive and hard to replace.

Beware of warrenty issues. I love this watch and would purchase the same model again, but I would not advise purchasing a Victorinox from Amazon. Victorinox does not honor their warrenties when an item is purchased through Amazon. So, my lovely watch that gets so fogged-up that it is difficult to read the time whenever it gets wet, is a big disappointment. Save yourself some frustration and purchase this watch through a dealer that is able to honor the manuafacturer warrenty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice entry-level watch from Victorinox, March 29, 2010
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's Renegade Watch #24228 (Watch)
The Renegade is a nice little entry-level watch from Victorinox. I wanted a simple, inexpensive watch with a PVC band...something other than a sports watch where I could sweat in the Dallas summer heat and not worry about the band getting crusty. The Renegade fits the bill nicely.

Note that the customer-provided photos on this page are a bit misleading in terms of the watch's size. [Miko, I thought I had small wrists!] The Renegade's smaller profile (39mm diameter including the winder) is a better choice for me and my small wrists than these spaceships that pass for men's watches these days. [Seriously, what is up with that? Guys are wearing satellite dishes on their wrists.]

Bought my husband and son this watch for Christmas. Saw it at a significantly higher price at a local sporting goods chain. Very satisfied with the quality and price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch Been Through Hell, August 13, 2011
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's Renegade Watch #24228 (Watch)
I have had this watch for about 10 years now and was just checking around to see if it is still made, and to my surprise it still is, which is good. I have worn this watch to work almost everyday on from when I got to about 2006. I stopped wearing it because my cell phone has a clock and was using that. My wife took over the watch and started wearing it to work. Her job involved putting her hands in water and chicken fat daily throughout the day. I thought well that's it for my Swiss Army watch. Needless to say about 6 months ago I took on a job where I needed a wrist watch. I found my old watch, the leather band I had put on it was destroyed and the watch was not working. I brought to my local watch guy and told him to replace the battery. At first with the new battery nothing happened, watch didn't work. I told him, the contacts are probably dirty, the watch has been through hell. He took the battery out cleaned the contacts and put the battery back in. Voila, the watch is keeping perfect time! While I was there I purchased a new band and he cleaned the watch up for me with whatever they use. With the new band and the cleanup, the watch looks brand new again. He only charged for the battery, $5, and a new black leather band, $18. You cannot kill this watch. If this one every really broke, I would not hesitate to buy another in a heartbeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best black plastic watch money can buy!, September 7, 2011
By
somedude (Rancho Cucamonga, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's Renegade Watch #24228 (Watch)
This watch may seem somewhat expensive since it is a black plastic basic time/date watch, but for what it is, it's perfect. The plastic used to make the case is very high quality, the rubber used for the strap is very durable, but at the same time is comfortable/flexible/soft. The many holes in the strap help keep your wrist from getting too sweaty, the numbers are big and easy to read, the accuracy of the watch is very impressive (loses maybe a minute or two per year), it's lightweight and it has a mineral crystal cover. As an added bonus, the watch is not overly big/bulky...I have pretty small wrists and this watch doesn't look out of place when I wear it (note...the reviewer who posted his pics has REALLY tiny wrists...this is definitely not a big watch). Also, this thing looks surprisingly classy for a plastic watch...I'm not saying you should wear it if you end up on the cover of Forbes mind you, but it really does look nice.

I've had this watch for about 3 years now (haven't had to replace battery yet) and have been completely satisfied with it. If you are looking to purchase a simple but reliable/high-quality watch that can be worn anywhere, this is probably the best one you can buy.
