The Victorinox Swiss Army Camper Pocket Knife with AA LED Flashlight is a great stocking stuffer. There are not too many negative things you can say about this item. The flashlight does feel relatively light-duty, and you may pay a small premium for the Victorinox / Swiss Army brand. But it's nicely packaged and is a no brainer as an extra holiday gift. The only real caveat I can add besides that is that hard-core campers would probably need a multi-tool with more features and longer tools than the included knife. So if you need this for serious camping, I probably don't have to tell you that you should be looking at larger multi-tools like the Leatherman Blast Multitool. Still, it's a pretty minor point because ultimately this is a very nice gift no matter what the marketing label is.


PROS:

+ LED flashlight runs on AA batteries, which is better than others that run on AAA
+ LED light will also last longer than traditional bulbs
+ Attractive display case makes for easy gift wrapping
+ The included mini-tools on the knife are great, especially the mini-saw
+ Nice large key ring allows easy attachment to keys or a carabineer
+ Rubber grip on flash light lets you keep your grip
+ Both items compact enough to easily fit in your pocket

CONS:
- The flashlight feels *light duty* relative to other Victorinox products
- Based upon the flashlight's feel, not sure how it would stand up to wet camping conditions
- The unit may not meet the needs of hardcore *campers* like a multi-tool
- Priced at a premium


I almost bought a similar set that was priced about the same but had a flashlight that required a AAA battery. I have rechargeable batteries in both sizes, but the AA is still more convenient since I always have more of them handy. That tipped the scales towards this set for me. Those who want to use the AAA flashlight can look at the Victorinox Swiss Army Soldier with AAA LED combo set.

The knife from this set is also very similar to the Victorinox Swiss Army Huntsman Pocket Knife model sans the mini-scissors. The most important tool included with this one and not with many other models is the mini-saw. This is the only thing that made me think one of the multi-tools might be better for camping, since the larger versions have mini-saws that are longer and more useful for cutting.

CONCLUSION

This is a very convenient set that is worth the small premium in price. The cons are relatively minor. As a gift or stocking stuffer, this is a no-brainer. I'm glad that nobody I know in real life reads my reviews so hopefully they will be surprised to find this in their stocking this holiday. You should check it out.

Well, the knife is the knife - who can beat swiss army in this niche!
The flashlight could be better though. The rotational switch is tight, and once your hands are wet or just in grease it might be hard to turn it on and off. It is sturdy and pretty small, light and bright.

I received this last week and absolutely love it. I did buy it for more than I see today, but like it so much that I'm buying a few as gifts.

I'm not really sure what the other reviewer was talking about when discussing the camper's wood saw. It is an extremely well reviewed feature within the family of Swiss Army products. I use mine on many trips for small cutting projects and it has held up very well for it's use.

As for the flashlight, it is a very good flashlight. I would have to say that it is at least twice as powerful as my old maglite and the red rubber grip handle is both good looking and highly functional (slip resistant).

As this "deal of the day" price, this product is a steal.

This product is a great buy because the flashlight alone is worth over $30: it is nice looking, well constructed and has a very strong and bright light and a compact confortable size. The knife is nice and has all the basic gadgets. The metal gift box is a great plus and it all adds up to a great gift option. Highly reccommend it!

This knife is very cool!!!, strong, good.... HOWEVER in the description of the product it doesn't say anything about the word CAMPING!!!:..that is included (in huge words) next to the logo of Victorinox!!! So, I will give 3stars because of it. The photo as you can see doesn't show this "camping-word". It really change the appearance of the knife (at least at my criteria).
The flashlight is EXTREMELY good, please make sure you have extra batteries because they go away very fast!!! So maybe it is recommended just for emergencies (car, kitchen...)

This is a great value to buy. After I got the set, opened box and found that there are some scratches on the flashlight and i cannot find the lanyard. Except that,the knife is really great, I like it!

Back when I was a kid, if you had a Swiss Army Knife & a Maglite, you were on top of the world. There wasn't anything in the outdoors, or your dad's garage, that you couldn't handle. I sawed twigs, built a birdhouse, cut bait, cut twine, cut fishing line, opened cans, opened bottles, sliced salami, cut PB&J into quarters for sharing, took out splinters with the tweezers, changed batteries, and took apart everything around the house that had fasteners that the knife could turn. It was a glorious time. The envy of all the other 8 year olds in the 3rd grade. That first knife followed me to school all the way to college. Back in those days, teachers didn't freak out about a kid with a weapon if you had a Swiss Army or a Buck Knife.

My Buck Knife was always on my hip, in a leather holster, for all the other kids in Middle School to be jealous of. As a little boy, I was able to split sandwiches in half for sharing, slice apples for the teacher, and every little boy loved it when the pretty teacher asked to borrow his Buck Knife to open envelopes and packages with.

Back in those days, the world was simpler. We didn't have crack cocaine, gang violence, or Oprah. All that we cared about was combing our hair in a ducktail like Fonzie, and acting cool with the ladies like Jack Tripper & Larry Dallas. I eventually moved onto a Leatherman Tool, a Streamlight, and a Benchmade. But those were the days.

There's a whole new generation of kids waiting in the wings to live out those same memories for themselves. I was just thinking of all that as I was boxing up a Leatherman Kick & Maglite 3D for my little 8 year old nephew. Why the Leatherman over the Swiss Army? He'll never use that corkscrew - I never did. Those toothpicks are just not sanitary. The leatherman has the pliers. We had Swiss Army as kids, simply because Leatherman wasn't invented yet. In those days, Swiss Army was the best. Those days aren't gone for good. Only these days, the kids are idolizing big shiny rims, gold teeth, and big booty biatches.

I have this gift set. The knife is the quality that you would expect for Victorinox/Swiss - Excellent. I agree with one of the other reviews - that the name "camper" is a bit over stated. However, this little knife will be what you reach for 90% of the time. And yes, the Saw blade is very sharp - it works great. And the LED Light -- WoW! I took this little jewel apart to see how it was designed -- I found a well machined work of art. A comparable light is the mag-lite 3-AA LED flashlight, but the flashlight alone cost $23 at wal-mart. And IMO, it isn't as good - I have both. However, The mag-light is brighter, but its not quite the quality of the victorinox.

All in all you will not find a better knife/light combo. It's a Great buy!

This is a great quality product that makes a great gift or a great addition to an emergency kit.

I ordered three of these for Christmas presents. As always, my package was delivered very quickly (thanks Amazon). This item arrives shrink wrapped in a plain white box, so you can only see the ends of the tin.

Well, I couldn't help myself......I had to open one to see what they look like. Honestly, the quality is even better than I expected. Yes, the flashlight is a lightweight, but it's still a great deal !
