Product Description

7-piece block set
The new Swiss Classic collection

Victorinox Swiss Army has been making legendary Swiss Army Knives since 1897. Guess what we made before that.

When Karl Elsener created the first Swiss Army Knife, he had no idea that he had just invented the symbol of Swiss ingenuity for generations to come. As a Master Cutler, he was only doing what came naturally. Karl had opened his cutlery factory 13 years before in Ibach, a village in northern Switzerland. By the time he dreamed up the world's first pocket tool, his cutlery business was already booming.

As it was then, Cutlery by Victorinox Swiss Army is today the first choice of professionals right down the line - as ubiquitous in the bustling meat-packing plants of the Midwest as it is in the gleaming, four-star restaurant kitchens of Midtown Manhattan.

You don't have to be a professional to appreciate our beautifully balanced, perfectly weighted, razor-sharp tools. But you can now put them to work just the same.

Victorinox Swiss Army has been handcrafting the finest blades since 1884.

These knives are great. Nice and sharp, will last a long time. However, the description states that they have Fibrox handles but they actually do not. They have just a basic plastic handle. But this really shouldn't sway you from buying them. You're still getting three knives for the price of two.

These are very sharp knives that work well out of the box. I bought them because I also bought a Victorinox filet knife which is outstanding. These however are not nearly as substantial as the filet knife. The blades are very thin and flex too easily for a small knife that needs to be strong enough for coring where a jabbing motion is used.
All that said, for the price you can't beat them. They are brutally sharp and keep the edge very well. Just take care because the blade will bend a little if you are trying to jab something with the point.

Regarding my previous review, I've made it a point to use these knives more just to verify my impressions. I have two other paring knives from expensive brands that are forged I'm sure, more bulk in the blade and very good knives. However, I'm realizing that for paring type work like peeling citrus or other tough skinned foods the thinner sharp blade is much superior to the heavier blades on forged knives. These things are spectacular for their purpose and the blade thinness I complained about before really doesn't hold up on more careful review. Give them five stars, regardless of the cost!

There's really nothing that needs to be said about Victorinox knives outside of their being inexpensive and effective. These are my paring knives of choice, and best of all, I'm never worried about chipping or breaking the point of these. They stay sharp, take well to a steel and I can replace them for a tenth of the cost of a more expensive knife. Bravo!

I still don't know how Victorinox does this for the price, but here's proof that they know what they are doing. Perfect size small paring knives, with the usual hyper-sharp Victor edge suitable for splitting the atom effortlessly. Handles are nubbly high-grip plastic (other kitchen-ware websites say polypropylene). Blades have no bolster, but given the handle friction this probably is not a problem

1. The straight parer is just right for general prep work and will retire an old no-name parer.

The other two are interesting.

2. The serrated edge parer is capable of slicing the toughest thin mushy vegetable skin (think ripe tomato) and make paper-thin slices. Works as well as the Victor tomato knife (I have one but will give it to my GF in favor of the shorter blade).

3. The reverse curved-blade parer (Bird's beak) introduced me to a French technique for prepping firm vegetables (make garnishes or "tournes" from carrots, potatoes, yams and other firm, solid not onion-style vegetables). Tourne cuts are curved uniform thickness strips and leave a 7-sided (!) core. Also suitable for peeling small spherical fruit. Online consensus is that Tourne is a master-chef flourish technique to show how skilled one is.

I'm not sure how much I'll use it but it may be more useful than I think. Williams-Sonoma wants $55 for a birds beak Wusthof. If you are a master chef or just need the bragging rights you should get a Wusthof and display it prominently on your kitchen counter as a conversation-starter; otherwise, buy this set and use this knife occasionally.

Overall, this is a buy; three knives for the price of two. You could do worse.

sharp, and nice flex in the blades, but the handles are crappy plastic. i guess for the price, pretty good. they do what they need to do.

These are good knives; I was skeptical that they would actually be made in Switzerland, but that is what the packaging says. Someone posted that these are not the Fibrox handles, but they are nicely shaped nevertheless and should hold up well in the dishwasher. I also own some Rada knives that are made in the USA and while the Victorinox have nicer handles, I think the Rada's have nicer blades. In particular, I would rate the similar three-piece Rada set higher because of the great serrated tomato slicer (long and thin).

Rada G249 Cutlery Set

Either set is a good value, particularly for not being made in the land of the Red Flag.

These are really sharp that is the best point about all of them. The one with the jagged edge I don't use so much and neither the one that is slightly curved. Keep in mind these are for pealing and really small. I also noted 2 small rust spots with very minimal use on one knive they are almost unnoticeable. There is nothing special here but they do the trick you don't need all 3 though in my opinion you might even better off buying http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CT3RZG/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2 for half the price. so unless you really want a knife just get a regular peeler you will save cash and storage space because why buy 3 knives when you can buy 1 peeler for way less. hope this helps If so please click the helpful link at the bottom

We found out about Victorinox knives via America's Test Kitchen / Cooks Country. We love them and have passed the good fortune on.
