5.0 out of 5 stars Great simple knife, July 6, 2007

Great knife with everything you need and nothing you don't. As other reviewers said, it is on the heavy side, but is well balanced, and fits my hand well.

Amazon's description seems to lack a list of all the implements, so here they are:
- One handed locking serrated blade.
- Can opener + small screwdriver that can also be used for Phillips screw heads
- Bottle opener + larger flathead screwdriver + wire stripper
- Belt cutter (a serrated blade with a rounded tip)
- Wood saw
- Reamer
- Corkscrew
- Toothpick and tweezers on alternate sides of the handle
- Keyring

The reamer, the only implement on the back of the knife besides the corkscrew, is pretty hard to get open without breaking your fingernails. All other implements open relatively easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars great knife, but beware, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Fireman Lockblade (Sports)
I researched long and hard for a knife that would suit my needs. In other words, I wanted it to have everything I needed, and nothing I didn't. Being as I work in construction, I knew I wanted a locking blade, as well as the woodcutter. I also knew I wanted the bottle opener and corkscrew on hand for after work. :) The Fireman Lockblade seemed the best fit-- and it is. I'm very happy with the quality and features, and use it every day. The only thing to know is that it's quite big-- much larger than other pocket knives. This means it takes up a bit more room in your pocket. Some may find that obtrusive. On the same token, it's much harder to lose or misplace. If you want a knife that won't let you down, but don't mind it weighing you down, this is the knife for you. Victorinox quality at a great price. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top end knife from a Top End Company, October 24, 2007

The only "bad" news is that I likely wouldn't call this a true "One Hand Opener" and that's rather a disappointment for to me. So far, I haven't made any effort to loosen the setup so that it will work properly in that role.

As with all Victorinox equipment, everything is tight and fits perfectly. I have this basic unit (the "Fireman" and the "Rescue") in two configurations. One I'm not able to "One Hand" at all. The second (fireman) I can "thumb hole" the blade out to just sort of 90 degrees. Both of these will be "worked in" till they're true "One Handers", so the star value selection isn't dimished to me. Secondarily the main blade has a cut style I've not encountered before. Short, narrow serrations from the tip 2/3 the blade, then straight blade. The cut of the blade is from one side only (no angle on the "back" side) and is one of the sharpest, best cutting blades, "Out of the Box" I've ever used.

Given the experience and use of this one so far, I'm very impressed. Eventually I'll get the blade as I want it, but that's always part of the process.

An excellent unit at a very good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Multitool, December 12, 2007

The One-Hand Firemen Lockblade is a great multi-tool for daily use. It's a bit large, but as long as you aren't looking for a tool to keep in your pocket at all times I think you will enjoy. Anyone familiar with Victorinox/Swiss Army knows the kind of quality your getting, this is certainly in line with those expectations.

just got the fireman today from amazon. I received the newer version with the more rounded thumbhole and plain-edge blade, just as I was hoping. The knife cannot be compared to the 3.5" swiss army. It's a lot bigger and really not suitable for pocket carry. If you carry it like a multitool (like Leatherman) in a sheath it's perfect. Compared to a leatherman wave or charge, you get much bigger knife, much better saw, plus toothpick and corkscrew :). All the tools, of course, snap into place like a proper swiss army knife should. Very excited about the set of tools provided and can't wait to put this into good use!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now that's a knife!, February 8, 2011

I've always carried the Hunter Swiss Army knife in the past and recently misplaced it at a campground. Came back later to retrieve it and it was gone...Drats, I really liked that knife.
In searching for a replacement I saw this knife -the One Handed Fireman - and thought I would try it instead.
Good decision. I love the one hand feature, allthough this knife and operator combo is going to take a litte work to make it a "true" one hand operation. It is tight and I am not the most coordinated person, so a little practice in the future.
The knife feels solid, the blade much stronger than the Hunter's model blade. Although the Hunter model had the gutting blade, I don't see why the seat belt blade of this knife could not be used in the same manner, they have the same basic design. And I also love the locking flatblade/can opener, that is a good idea. I've had that blade fold back on me before on other knives.
This knife feels solid and is definetly large. I carry it in the coin pocket of my Levi's, it is out of the way when I bend down and is partially protruding from the coin pocket which makes it easy to pull out. No digging around a regular pocket for a knife. I won't be misplacing this knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent knife, January 27, 2011

This is a fabulous pocket knife. All of the tools are the high quality that you expect from Swiss army knives. The main blade differs from the historic Swiss Army knife as it is longer, sturdier, and partially serrated. The knife is larger and bulkier than the historic knife which makes it less usable for backpacking, but great for all sorts of other activities. I am very pleased with this knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great multi-purpose knife, September 17, 2009

Perfect knife for day hikes (I keep it in my mini-1st aid pouch.) or picnics (The corkscrew saved my life.). My one minor gripe was that the main blade wasn't very sharp out of the box. Thank God for bench grinders! Yes, I'm lazy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete, sturdy, and looks good, February 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Fireman Lockblade (Sports)
It only took about 4-5 days to start working the blade into smooth one-handed use. As usual with Victorinox, the blades are sharp and the fit it tight so no complaints there. As everyone is saying, it's a little big for your pants pocket, but I keep mine in the inside chest pocket of my coat without a problem. Lastly, given the size of this knife, the lanyard ring is basically useless unless you have the key to a city.

Final note: Although not shown in the picture above, this model does include a wood saw
