About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

The perfect gift for your Cub Scout,

This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Pocket Pal Cub Scout Pocket Knife (Sports)
This is my sons first year in Scouts (he's 9) and he has had a blast with Scouting. This handy pocket knife is a great first tool to teach responsibility. The product is study, just the right size, and has an attractive covering that fits in with the Cub Scouts colors.
The Scouting logo on the side of the knife was important to him as well. I think that it gave it some validity. :)

I highly recommend this knife for several reasons.
First, it's well made. The grip is good, the size is right for a kid and the edge holds. It's an appropriate size. Second, it looks like a Cub knife which gives identity to the kid. It's a Cub knife for a Cub. Third, it's non-locking which I think is good based on my experience of kids trying to figure out how to close locking knives. Also it discourages a kid from gouging. Major source of knife closings unexpectedly.

Gave this to my 9 year old son when he joined cub scouts. The knife is very sharp and seems to hold an edge for quite some time. He has been using it to basically whittle sticks down to nothing.
