About Victorinox
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Product Description

In 1884, Karl Elsener opened his cutlery workshop in Ibach, Switzerland. In 1891, he obtained the first contract to supply the Swiss Army with a "Soldier's Knife" which was officially registered on June 12, 1897. Since that time, the Victorinox Original Swiss Army Knife has become well-known in more than 100 countries for precision, quality, functionality, and versatility. It's time you enjoy a new Victorinox multi-tool. You will find it to be an invaluable companion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like the swiss army classic; but a bottle opener and philips screwdriver rather than scissor, December 11, 2006

Great! A small, sharp knife, combination file and small screwdriver, tweezer, toothpick, and philips screwdriver/bottle opener combo tool. All in one package that can go on your keyring.

The question is, should you get the Rally, or the Classic, which is the identical pocket knife, but with a small scissor instead of the combination small philips head screwdriver / bottle opener?

It's a matter of which you get the most use out of; I have both but prefer the Rally for the bottle opener. Most people have the Classic, perhaps because the Rally is newer and isn't as well-known.

Have a look at the classic before you decide; it is on the Amazon website for the same price.

5.0 out of 5 stars best $10 you can spend, January 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Rally Pocket Knife (Sports)
I've always carried a pocket knife and find myself using it all the time. Victorinox definitely makes the best ones and they last forever so it's worth spending the extra couple bucks, instead getting a generic one. I prefer the Rally over the Classic because I never used the scissors and I find the bottle opener/phillips head much more useful. I've been the savior at more than one tailgate or party where we didn't realize that the bottles we bought weren't twist off. Careful at the airport though, I always forget I have it and they confiscate it at security.
