5.0 out of 5 stars Best pocket knife, November 11, 2006

The problem with most pocket knives is that they really aren't that pocket friendly. Even when I have all sorts of pocket competition, ipod, cell phone, car keys with fob, LED flashlight and maybe a bluetooth headset too, I still have room for the Rambler. It is is just like a Classic except it opens beer bottles and has a Phillips screwdriver. Really it is the perfect pocketknife. I have many knives from Leatherman micras to huge multi-tools to Spyderco liner-locks but I keep coming back to the Rambler as the most practical daily carry knife around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely love this knife., July 21, 2004

I own and have owned several Victorinox Swiss Army Knives and this one is far and away my favorite. It's a good size for keeping in a pocket or attaching to a key chain. I find the minichamps to be a little too big in that regard and I kept my Delux Tinkerer in my jeans pocket so regularly that it wore a hole in the demin on several pairs of my jeans. This knife also has the tools I tend to use most often. The scissors come in more handy than the blade, and can be used for personal grooming as well as cutting pesky loose threads from clothing. The phillips screwdriver is very handy for taking apart small electronic devices and similar items. The bottlecap opener, built into the phillips, is also handy in a pinch. It also has a flathead screwdriver on the nail file, which is pretty useful. I'd definitely recomend this knife. Be careful, though, because it is unobtrusive in the pocket you must take pains to remember to check it when you fly or you'll end up making the same mistake I've made several times by donating it to airport security. In general, the victorinox line of knives are excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great upgrade from the classic, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Rambler Pocket Knife (Sports)
I have owned several of these, since I have lost several when forgetting to move it to my checked luggage when flying. The Rambler is a great upgrade from the normal Classic version, but adds the very useful phillips screwdriver and bottle opener, but is the same length of the Classic and only slightly thicker so it still fits well in a pocket or on a key ring for every day use. I have gotten great use out of the addition of the phillips screwdriver, from a constantly loosening screw on my sunglasses, to various computer repairs at work. I have found it to be a great upgrade to the classic with an almost imperceptable growth in size. I definitely recomend the Rambler over the Classic.

The "Rambler" is better than the "Classic" (I own two)for one simple reason, if you keep your little knife on a key-chain: its blade is situated opposite the key-ring, so that you can use it effectively while the keys are still attached. Philips head screws are everywhere, and often loose, and as far as the beer bottle opener...I'm there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A civilized and very useful tool, July 31, 2008

Few, if any, of us will ever scale a fish, gut a deer, skin a bear, or cut off our own arm to get out of a bind. A least on a daily basis. But we will use this tool. (If you need to live in the wild, or on the edge, get something else!)

I've carried this model every day for more than ten years. It is so small I typically don't know I have it with me. I've used it nearly every day. Whereever I am, and whatever I'm doing, it's the first tool I reach for. Nine time out of ten, it gets the job done.

Ok, I'm a classic "white-collar" worker (a lawyer). But I can do most everything I need a tool for with the Rambler. And it's durable. In ten years I had two! The first is still usable and resides in my desk drawer so I don't have to stand up to get one. I use them that much.

But be careful. They don't help you board airplanes, or get into federal courthouses. Used as a weapon they could inflict a pretty severe "paper cut." But it would be hard to get more "bang for the buck."

I've given countless SAK's as gifts, and people always say the same thing: "at first, i didn't think much of it, but now that i've carried it for a few days, i can't live without it". I think this is the best SAK model for everyday carrying because it's small, but it has the scissors (great for hangnails and removing strings from clothes, among other things) and the invaluable bottle opener/phillips screwdriver blade. If you're a beer drinker, I don't need to say any more. Even if you're not, though, it's the screwdriver that's really handy -- I just used it this past weekend to remove the CD drive from my computer even though i had my regular tool set available because i didn't have a small enough driver with a magnetic tip. Probably the biggest use for this knife, though, is fixing toys for my kids. Every toy seems to have a tiny phillips screw holding the battery compartment shut, so carrying a tiny phillips screwdriver around is just SOOOOO handy for any daddy. You can get other models with a cuticle tool, orange peeler, etc. but I don't think they're useful enough to justify the added cost or bulk, unless you happen to eat a lot of oranges or something. And don't bother with the midnight models, the light is too dim to be useful in anything but total blackness. Get the Rambler, it's perfect.

Item is small and light weight but serves a useful purpose since it has a Phillips screwdriver, scissors, slothead screwdriver, knife, and toothpick. I have had this particular model knife for over ten years and always have it in my pants pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Small Pocket Knife, August 6, 2010

Swiss Army makes so many small knives that it's hard to choose the best for you. I like this one because it's small enough to keep on my keyring, has a good scissors, and has both regular and phillips head screwdrivers. These pretty much cover what I want the knife to do (along with the knife blade, of course). And the quality is excellent. The Rambler's the one for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST small Swiss Army Pocket Knife, February 7, 2009
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Rambler Pocket Knife (Sports)
This is an amazing little knife. In one small package it contains the usual small Swiss Army Knife Blades(Knife, Nail File/straight blade screwdriver, and Small Scissors). What sets the Rambler apart is the 4th blade. It is a bit thicker and is a Philips screwdriver. You might think that a Philips Screwdriver this size would be fragile. It is not. I have used this knife for over 15 years and have NEVER had one of its blades break. Unfortunately I do lose them, and that is why I am purchasing this one. It replaces the one that I recently lost.
This is one of those items that you find yourself constantly reaching for. 5 Stars to Swiss Army Knife for the Rambler.

This is the 2nd Rambler my husband has had. He thinks he can't live without it. He carries it at all times and uses it constantly. This is his "McGiver" tool!
