5.0 out of 5 stars Great Keychain Companion
I've had one these puppies hanging on my keychain for about 1 year now and it's been a lifesaver at times. The light comes in handy when you're stuck in a dark spot and I can't tell you how many times I've been stuck without a pen and then suddenly remembered that I did have one, on my knife! The pen hasn't run out yet and always writes great. The scissors cut with the...

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty slick- weak light
I'm a little on the fence on this item. I love Swiss Army knives, and the key-chain variety with the scissors has been
about as useful down through the years to me as anything I've owned. This has all the standard blades for their small knife,
plus a pen and flashlight. The flashlight beam is so weak that it is useless from more than a few inches away, and the...

The light comes in handy when you're stuck in a dark spot and I can't tell you how many times I've been stuck without a pen and then suddenly remembered that I did have one, on my knife! The pen hasn't run out yet and always writes great. The scissors cut with the precision you'd expect from a Victorinox knife and the nailfile and knife are always useful whoever you may be. All in all, a great companion to any keychain!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice knife -- light ideal for stargazers, October 4, 2005
By
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Signature II Original Pocket Knife with Light (Sports)
As one of the reviewers notes below, the light is dim and red. This is not necessarily a disadvantage. Campers, night hikers, and stargazers may appreciate a light that doesn't disturb the eyes' dark adaptation. Moonlight or even starlight is more than bright enough to see by once you have given your eyes a few minutes to adjust ... but you will never get there if you, or others around you, are using bright flashlights. A low-level red light is ideal for illuminating a star chart, the inside of a backpack, or a footpath shadowed by trees. It's also totally invisible to many nocturnal animals, an advantage if you're hoping to see them.

The rest is just what it should be: a Swiss Army knife with everything I need, including a really excellent pair of scissors, in a keychain-size tool.

I'm a little on the fence on this item. I love Swiss Army knives, and the key-chain variety with the scissors has been
about as useful down through the years to me as anything I've owned. This has all the standard blades for their small knife,
plus a pen and flashlight. The flashlight beam is so weak that it is useless from more than a few inches away, and the light is red so it is unpleasant to read by. I had to order a pen refill since the one that came with the knife never worked. It's very nice to have one for emergencies, but I wouldn't want to write my memoirs with it. If the light were a little better I'd give it 4 stars, easily. Since that is one of the main reasons to buy this knife as opposed to their basic one, I have to give them 3.5 stars instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carry it all the time, but lost it and now I'm lost, October 13, 2004
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Signature II Original Pocket Knife with Light (Sports)
This is the best version of this little knife. The flashlight is useful (especially for us old folks who are losing vision in dim places) and a conversation piece. The pen is always there when you need it, unlike other pens I've had (and invariably lose). Alas, I forgot to put this knife in my checked bags, and it has gone to the big security office in the sky. I'm buying another asap. Maybe two, one for a spare.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful pocket knife with pen to write with inside, January 9, 2007

This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Signature II Original Pocket Knife with Light (Sports)
My husband and his friend likes to hike and one day he and his friend met some people out of state--they wanted to share email address---no one had a pen/pencil so my husband's friend pulls out his pocket knife and inside it is a pen to write with. Everyone was so excited to know there is a swiss army signature with a pen to write with inside.
My husband looked everyone where in stores for this same knife set cause he wanted one just like it---could not find it so I did some searching on the net and bought it for his Christmas gift---he was so excited to receive it on Christmas morning. Thanks

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have, March 15, 2006

As an engineer this item is quite simply a requirement. The pen is the feature that makes this one special. So many times I am somewhere and want to make some notes. I reach for this knife and its handy pen. Much easier than trying to remember the price of something in the store to compare it to the price on Amazon. Of course the knife and scissors come in handy often also. The light is dim but works well in near total darkness. I have used it to work on the computer and read a star map on a dark night. This knife is highly recommended. I used the screw driver the other day to help a woman who had broken her glasses -she was more than impressed that I had a screwdriver handy.
The only problem is that I want to take it with me all the time and you can't fly with it. The one I have now is my second. I lost the first to TSA at the airport after having mailed it back once for $10. You must rememeber to leave it home when you fly or you will be sad when turning to over to the Feds.

I have owned this knife (twice) over five years. I lost my first one right after 911 at a concert. Had to throw is away, like I was going to hijack the auditorium. Anyway, at the price it wasn't worth losing my place in line and having to go back and leave it in my car.
The second one I had long enough to have to replace the battery (for the light, though limited use) and the pen ink cartridge. Having to replace stuff like that I think is a good sign of use.
Anyway, finally broke my second one, too much sideward pressure on my file blade, (which has saved many hang nails). So I ordering the exact same one.
Way to go Swiss Army Victorinox. Just don't forget to check it through when you fly.

I am a big SAK fan and truly appreciate the quality of their stuff and ingenuity. Every thing on this has worked great since I bought this about a year ago and is still working perfectly. If I did not expect so much out of them I would give this five stars but I have one complaint. I think that they could have been able to fit in some tweezers even with the light on that side. Other than that, it is truly an excellent thing.

I have owned this knife for 5 years since I purchased it in Switzerland. I think it is the handiest small knife they make. I have since that time casually looked for a replacement knowing that eventually it would break and was surprised that it was hard to find. Well the spring for the scissors has broken and thanks to the internet I've found one. Let me comment about some of the reviews. The knife blade and screw driver are close to the key ring and if you plan to use them a lot you need a differant knife. This design makes the light, pen and scissors easier to use. This is not a replacement for a pen, light or scissors for that matter it is to be used when they are not available. I carry this knife for just that purpose and have been saved quite a few times when I've needed a pen or a light in some tight places. I guess the same thing can be said for the big multibladed knives but this knife is only 2 1/2 inches long and easy to carry. It is so unobtrusive that I've almost forgot to put it in my luggage at the airport.
