I hated the canning rack that came with our canning set because there was a large gap between the "spokes" and half pint size jars fell through into the hot water bath. We make a lot of jelly in half pint size jars, and this rack is PERFECT! Gosh, but it makes life so much easier to use this flat, multi-wire rack to give my half pint jars a hot water bath. Well worth the cost of buying, as we never worry about the jars falling through and breaking (or becoming lost in the bottom of the canner during the bath process). I don't understand the other reviewer's concerns about the "spokes" getting in the way - that has never been a problem for us. We have had no problems with rust either. FYI, all sizes of jars fit on the rack, I just focused on 1/2 pint jars because that's what makes this rack so useful to us. Recommended.

I just ordered and received this product, awesome delivery time.
You can't tell from the picture on here but the six "spokes" are on the top of the circular rings, therefore creating dividers in the space available.
If I was to do it again I think I would have bought the more expensive rack from Kitchen Krafts that says it has no dividers and holds more jars.
As it is, I have a tall enough pot that I will just turn the rack upside down and see how it goes.

There are probably nicer racks out there, but this represents good value for the money and does the job. This fits about a dozen 1/2 pint jars for me with little effort; any more than that and the jars get too difficult to get in and out of the canner. It's sturdy and well made and I've had no trouble with it (although I wouldn't dare try to lower the loaded rack into or out of the boiling water bath - I just keep it in the bottom and insert or remove jars individually - but that's true of any canning rack I've ever had; you only need to accidentally drop an entire batch of hot jam jars once to never try that again!)

The only complaint I have is that, as other reviewers have noted, the spokes holding the concentric circles together are on the top and not the bottom, meaning that you have to be careful to not place jars directly on the spoke unless there are other jars next to them, to keep them from tipping a bit.

This rack is durable & has been quite an asset to our household during the busy harvest/canning season. We are very pleased with the lack of rust on this rack. Admittedly, the dividers may limit how many jars one can safely fit into the canner initially, but we have found that we can sometimes get more than 7 jars in at once. We are very satisfied with this product & highly recommend it!

This rack is such a relief from the original one that came with my canner. It is excellent for half-pint and pint jars and also works well with quart jars.

To address the items brought up in prior reviews:

Yes the radial "spokes" are on top, but that never caused me any problem, even with the smallest jars. Just load within the spokes and fill in with your last few jars.

The rack never dropped off of the canner rim when I have used it. The notch or "dogleg" is less acute (only slightly) than my original rack, but you really have to knock it around to get it to drop off. Knocking and bumping are things I avoid when I have 4 gallons of boiling water in front of me. You could take some pliers and crimp the notch to make a sharper angle or just avoid canning during earthquake season.

This a good, cost-effective replacement for an original part with limited use.

This has been great. I searched for a stainless steel one, and this fit the bill. I also wanted one that could make the most of my 23-quart pressure canner, and it fits like a dream. The hooks midway down the shafts of the handle have been really wonderful, as they provide an easy way for me to blanch fruits and vegetables in the basket quickly. It's standing up to heavy use wonderfully.

I used this for the first time today to can a batch of pints. I was looking for something that would be better suited to a variety of jar sizes than the standard rack (built for seven quarts) that came with my canner. I like the size and flexibility, but the solder gave way and one of the arms came off the first time I tried to pick it up with a full load of nine pints in it. Thankfully, it didn't come off over the hot water bath--that would have been a potentially dangerous disaster. The other soldered joints seem sufficient, but I'll have to give it a careful once-over and perhaps do some repair before I use it again.

I purchased this item (VKP1056) for my All-American (Wisconsin Foundry) model 921 pressure canner.
Described size was nominally good for my pot.
Delivered rack was just a tad oversize from the description. Snagged the walls of the pot about half way down.
I'm not a whinny little piss boy (as so many unimaginative, lazy and ignorant critics are) and so reckoned to manually adjust the diameter a bit to make my purchase work without much more ado.
Very irritating, two of the spot welds on the outer perimeter broke immediately. Minor manual manipulation with bad results.
Danger, danger, Will Rogers.
It doesn't take much imagination to see the potential here of pulling out a rack full of very hot and heavy items out of your pot and have them unexpectedly spilling and injuring a loving homemaker. Bad, bad, bad.

Seriously, a no brainer, avoid this misbegotten item.
On a positive note, I promptly replaced this disappointing item with a similar rack from Kitchen Krafts. This new, properly fitting rack is made of stainless steel wire slightly of a heavier gauge (.125 vs .110 inches) and good spot welding resisting any of my reasonable and maybe a little beyond attempts to break the joints. A little pricey but well worth it.
Good fit, form and function. Nuff said.

After canning season this fall, I decided I was in need of a new canning rack. I'm looking forward to using this item next season. It looks well made and should last for many seasons!

I needed a good canning rack and this is not one of them. It works in general but I cannot lift the jars out of the canner. The rack is so poorly made that it will not stay on the rim of my canner. It does function to a point but I am very dissapointed with what I cannot do with it. I would not purchase this ever again from this company. I hope american's could make a better product.
