This is the best thing in the kitchen for home processing of fruits and vegetables. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not a wide enough counter/table clamp
Maybe my counter is wider than average, but I couldn't clamp it to the counter. My dining room table was also too wide for it. I ended up using a grooming table (after cleaning it, of course!) Had I not had a grooming table, it would have been a waste of money since I couldn't attach it to anything in my home. Also, it was easy enough to use but very difficult to take...

This review is from: Victorio VKP250 Model 250 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker (Kitchen)
This is the best thing in the kitchen for home processing of fruits and vegetables. Bought it for tomatoes to make sauce and juice, but after reading booklet found out other uses such as raspberry juice (we use for homemade ice cream) I used to strain the berries through cheese cloth and clean pantyhose to get out seeds, but with this not only do i get clean juice but more of it as you can reprocess the "waste" several times. I would highly recommend this item. Save yourself the trouble and just buy the extra screens when you purchase the base kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to find, but worth it, April 18, 2010

My wife has used one of these for many years for all kinds of food preparation. Key examples include canning, jams, sauces, and juices. It's a crucial component in the process and a tremendous time-saver. For several years they were very hard to find. This year we were thrilled to be able to purchase one through Amazon for a good friend who loves to "put food by". She's now another believer. If you're serious about food preservation, you need one. Its very durable as well.

One warning though: Be prepared for juice and pulp to coat a wide area of your kitchen when you use it. It's not a design flaw, its just the nature of the process. So, if you're afraid of sticky messes, don't even think about it. However, if you're willing to do a little clean up, the quality of the food you feed your family will be drammatically improved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stupendous!!!, October 9, 2009

My Grandma, Aunts, and Mother have all used Victorio Strainers for decades and the advice I got was, "buy a Victorio". (Not sure if any of them ever owned anything different.) Some have different versions, but they all love them and faithfully use them every year!!! My Aunt and Mother have never had theirs break, and they have put a lot of 'miles' on their machines. It sure makes canning easier, because you don't have to core or peel the apples. (not sure if fruit with big pits like Prunes and Peaches need to be pitted.) Apples need to be cut in half or in quarters, but these machines sure make the process a whole lot easier!!! I've looked at other machines that do a similar process, but most are similar in cost and you still have to do more work. My sister bought one a year or so ago and loves hers! I'm dreaming of the applesauce I'm going to make, cause I'm buying one today!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much improved over previous model, November 29, 2010

For the last two years, I borrowed my parent's (15 year old) sauce maker for my garden tomatos. This year, I bought my own. What a difference! This new unit is much better designed. The Victorio has pulp and seed guards that make much less mess. The clamp mechanism is much easier to secure to my table. The stainless steel screens are great. I like it so much, I'm getting my parents one for Christmas.

With my parent's old unit: I'd get towels for the drips, shims for the table clamps, and have to scrub the rust out of the indside of the screen.

Bought this item to make homemade applesauce.

Seller shipped same day of order, order arrived next day (Seller had only claimed next day shipment with free shipping which was up-to 5-business days.) 5-STARS for the Seller!

The unit contains many improvements over the similar stainless steel unit that was commonly sold in the US circa 1950/1960's.

The only minor concern still remaining is the sheer bulk and torque of use of the item as it is attached to the counter-top/breadboard/cutting board. Just be cautious of how hard/fast one is 'cranking' the handle and periodically check to ensure that the Victorio is still solidly attached to the counter-top and you should not have any issues.

For 30 years, I've used the old Victorio 200 model. I bought the new one because I can no longer find parts for the old one (specifically, a new screw). I must say that the old one is sturdier and works better than the new. I find the new one flimsy in comparison although it does have padded feet to protect the countertop when it is attached and I do like the splash screen. I found the new one to be very difficult to crank, even though I followed all directions about oiling the seal ring, etc. Even though the screw on the old model is worn, I finally gave up on the new Victorio and went back to my old one. If you've never used the original, the current Victorio is probably fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Piece of Junk!, September 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Victorio VKP250 Model 250 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker (Kitchen)
This has got to be the biggest piece of junk I've ever tried to use. I have the original Victorio Model 200 that's around 40 years old. It's been used so much that some of the parts are worn. After checking the prices to replace some of the parts, I found it was cheaper to buy the Model 250 and have a brand new strainer. Boy, was I mistaken! The Model 250 metal parts weigh about 1/4 of the original and the plastic parts are light weight.

There is a design flaw in the spiral that won't let the peeling and seeds exit the shute as they should. After the spiral clogged up the third time, I was fed up with the Model 250 and went back to using my OLD Model 200. It took me less time to finish 45 lbs of tomatoes than it did to do 5 lbs with the Model 250.

I guess if you're going to use this for a few lbs of tomatoes, it MIGHT be OK, but not for doing 50 lbs.

I'll pay the extra to get parts for the Model 200!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Machine in the World!, January 29, 2010
This review is from: Victorio VKP250 Model 250 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker (Kitchen)
I love my Victorio strainer. I use it for so many different things because it is so versatile. I use it the most to strain my tomatoes for things like pasta sauce and tomato soup. However, I have also used it to make mashed potatoes, peach jam and apple sauce. A tip that I found to be useful when straining fresh fruits and vegetables is to make sure that they are totally ripe because that makes straining very easy. Through trial and error I found that when my tomatoes are green they still go through the machine, but not nearly as easily as when they are nice and ripe. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my strainer and it was definitely money well spent.

The Victorio Food Strainer made applesause and soups in a snap. Easy and fun to use. It strains out all the seeds, core, and peelings so I don't have to. Wonderful product!
