Editorial Reviews

High school is a time of self-discovery and personal growth, but the experience is usually fraught with awkwardness, insecurity, bullying, and wildly conflicting emotions. Whether things are different at a prestigious performing arts high school is something Tori (Victoria Justice) is about to find out. After filling in for her sister in a big arts showcase performance at the prestigious Hollywood Performing Arts School, Tori is asked to join the student body. Feeling unsure and distinctly out of place, she makes the switch to the new school and soon encounters some very unique individuals, including talented musician Andre (Leon Thomas III), vacant and perhaps even bipolar Cat (Ariana Grande), good-looking actor and budding playwright Beck (Avan Jogia), awkward ventriloquist Robbie (Matt Bennett) and his puppet Rex (voiced by Jake Farrow), and the broodingly violent Jade (Elizabeth Gillies). The group become friends, though there's a definite love-hate relationship that tends mostly toward hate between Jade and Tori, and together they make their way through the trials and tribulations of high school and growing up. While their days at Hollywood Arts are an atypical mix of acting classes, stage fighting, film production, and live stage performances, Tori and the other students will definitely fulfill the universal, if unwritten high school requirement for interpersonal drama. Created by iCarly creator Dan Schneider, Victorious capitalizes on every tween's and teen's dream of becoming a star and their accompanying fear of being laughed at and bullied by their fellow students. While the acting is at times overdone and the script can feel forced, Victoria Justice and the rest of the cast are talented individuals who work well together and have effectively captivated the program's target tween and teen girl audience. The five episodes in this first volume of the first season are presented in production order--which is not how they originally aired on Nickelodeon, but that's basically irrelevant plot-wise. The bonus features are decidedly skimpy, with just two roughly 40-second commercial spots, "Meet Tori Vegas" and "Meet the Cast," and the music videos "Freak the Freakout" and "Beggin' on Your Knees." --Tami Horiuchi

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally out of order July 9, 2011
I bought this DVD because I love the show. While I have enjoyed the DVD, I am very confused as to why they put the episodes completely out of order. The first three episodes are in order, but then it jumps to the middle of the season, then back towards the beginning of the season, and that's on disc one. On disc two, it starts towards the beginning of the season, but again out of order, then it jumps to the next to last episode of the season, then back to the middle of the season. Why was it put together this way? If Nick is going to release these TV shows on DVD, they should put all of the episodes in order because it is very confusing to the viewers and fans. Here is the complete list of season one episodes in order, even though they haven't released Volume Two yet.

1. Pilot (Special Extended Version)
2. The Bird Scene
3. Stage Fighting
4. The Birthweek Song
5. Jade Dumps Beck
6. Tori The Zombie
7. Robarazzi
8. Survival Of The Hottest (Title changed from Stuck In An RV)
9. Wi-Fi In The Sky
10. Beck's Big Break
11. The Great Ping-Pong Scam
12. Cat's New Boyfriend
13. Freak The Freak Out (TV Movie)
14. Rex Dies
15. The Diddly-Bops
16. Wok Star
17. The Wood
18. A Film By Dale Squires
19. Sleepover At Sikowitz's

I wish they would re-release it in the correct order and in Widescreen version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great show. Bad packaging. July 12, 2011
By Stressa
This show is great. There's now doubt about that. Probably the best show on tv for it's demographic. The problem here is the contents of the DVD. The episodes aren't in real widescreen and the episodes are out of order as everyone said. Normally I wouldn't complain about the way the episodes are listed because I don't catch the show on tv when the new ones air. I catch the reruns, so it's basically the same thing. But the presentation comes off as a 'best of' for the show because of the random nature of the episode selection. Also, the bonus videos of 'meet Tori Vega/the cast' clock in at less that a minuite long each. So not bonus material. At least it could have had some interviews or blooper reels. The only goods thing on the DVD are the music videos and digital copies of the episodes. The digital copies are the only reason why I'm giving this 4-stars. Otherwise it would get three.

Edit: after a quick wiki search, I found out that the episodes are in order. They are based on the production number and not the airdate number. That means that the episodes were probably aired out of order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tori Keeps on Charming April 6, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Victoria Justice plays "Tori Vega".......that's why the show is called "Victorious". This DVD set has episodes which are full of fun
and musical talent. As before, the likeable cast and top-notch production place this show at the top of all high-school-age
TV programs.

We have looked and looked for something to watch with my 13 year old daughter. Most shows are just too much, but these are a good balance of fun and not too young. Good choice!

Why fullscreen?!?
Probably because these companies don't think that widescreen is important for kids and tween shows like Victorious and iCarly. They film it in HD and 1.78:1 aspect ratios, but even on the DVD's, the "movie" episodes like "iFight Shelby Marx" and shown in wide but 4x3 wide....
