I really bought this CD for one song but I've listened to the whole thing and found it to be a pretty damn good CD. I would recomend it to anyone who likes rock and roll music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive 80's melodic rock album, July 17, 2009
This review is from: Victory Day (Audio CD)
At some point in the mid 80's, Canadian rockers Red Rider became known as Tom Cochrane and Red Rider. It was part of singer/guitarist Tom Cochrane's transition to a solo career. Cochrane, of course, is best known for his very catchy, very popular single "Life Is a Highway".

1988's Victory Day was the second of the two Tom Cochrane and Red Rider albums, and is fairly typical of the mainstream rock sound in the late 80's. It's somewhere between Brian Adams and Bon Jovi. It's an arena rocking album that still has heartland appeal. There's a down to earth appeal here that most 80's rockers just couldn't pull off, thanks no doubt to Cochrane's unique voice and soulful guitar playing. Cochrane is every bit as talented a songwriter as he is a singer and guitarist. The songs on Victory Day are all quite well-written, so much so that they've drawn the attention of other artists. Glen Burtnik recorded a version of "Not So Far Away" for the Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989 Film), and former Survivor frontman Jimi Jamison took the song "Calling America" out for a spin on his solo album Empires.

Victory Day is a totally enjoyable 80's rock album that should appeal to most fans of 80's era AOR, melodic rock, arena rock, or whatever you choose to call it. I found it a lot more enjoyable than Cochrane's more popular later albums. Rating: 4/5

3.0 out of 5 stars Straight up rock record., June 23, 2009
This review is from: Victory Day (Audio CD)
Not much to say about this one. Straight up rock record with some decent hooks. Big League is probably the stand out cut on the album. It's a sad story about a young hockey player but the chorus will pump up a parent who's child is a stud athlete in any sport!
