5.0 out of 5 stars Chi Town Style, Chi Town Victory
Many people bash Do or Die, saying they lost tempo with this album. Its true that "Picture This" and "Heads or Tailz" are exceptional albums, but it doesn't mean this album is at all bad. It is great for Do or Die fans as well as any fan because this still makes a better cd than ne other garbage on the radio nowadays. If people don't like this album its because they don't...

If people don't like this album its because they don't understand the style Chitown produces. Our rappers don't just do hardcore music. If you really listen to all Do or Die's albums, you will realize that 1/3 of the songs are soft and melodic, while 1/3 is catchy and great riding music, and 1/3 is hardcore jamming. Thats just the diversity of this group, to be able to produce soft-r&b like music with johnny p or even by themselves, make more cruising or chillin beats like "in the mode", and also make hardcore songs like "thuggin it out"
the album starts off strong with victory, and ends even better with already know with e-40
Victory - great intro. 5/5
If U Scared - awesome beat, good song 4/5
In the Mode - amazing song, one of my favs 6/5
Keep it Real - great song with J.P. and fast beat 5/5
Who Knows - not bad 4/5
Tha Heist - hardcore street jam 4/5
La, La, La - Lay back and chill beat 4/5
Can U Make It Hot - good commercial like song, 5/5
V.I.P. - awesome beat, great dancelike tempo 5/5
Bounce For Me - good song to get u pumped 5/5
If I DOn't Eat - good main chorus, hard lyrics 4/5
Stay Focused - not bad 4/5
Murderers, Pimps n Thugs - coulda done witout Jarule 3/5
Ride - good song 4/5
Thuggin it out - good hard track 4/5
Already - awesome track, great choruses and voices 5/5

Overall this album isn't as good as the first two, but its by no means at all a disappointment, its a great cd, one that i listen to constantly

2.0 out of 5 stars Funniest Album I've ever heard!, October 31, 2000
By
This review is from: Victory (Audio CD)
This was one of the weakest albums I've ever heard. Don't Do Or Die know without Twista their album just isn't the same?? Po Pimp made their first album, Still Po Pimpin' made their second, and then they come out with this and disrespect his name with this garbage. They obviously need an awakening because without Twista they won't be doing, just dying. Do not buy this album, just dub it or something.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable...., October 6, 2009

I am a HUGE Do or Die fan. I love their music. I love the fact that they played a big part in bringing attention to my hometown. These guys are part of the "REAL CHICAGO". Now that I've said that, this album, "Victory" should have never been released. This should have been one of those lost albums that get leaked onto the internet around 2015. The songs on this album should have been scrapped and salvaged what could be used to make a quality project.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite victorious, May 3, 2007

Do or Die had become hardcore favorites throughout the Midwest and in the underground nationally after their great first two albums, Picture This and Headz or Tailz. The Chicago trio of Nard, AK-47, and Belo Zero had established themselves as a unique act, a hardcore group with a talent for rhyming quickly and harmoniously and always surrounded by wonderful production and a creative sound. Both of their albums went gold despite little mainstream airplay, and they appeared to be traveling the Rap-A-Lot path to success (a la Geto Boys) when "Victory" dropped. "Victory" is a different sounding album--Rap-A-Lot's distribution deal with Virgin seems to have led to a more mainstream oriented sound. The collaborations with Johnny P and Danny Ray as well as production from The Legendary Traxster are notably absent, as are many of the eerie street tales over gloomy g-funk that were prevalent on their first two. "Victory" is more oriented toward club songs and slow jams. There is a handful of very good slow songs, made in the vein of "Nobody's Home" and "Can I" from their last album, and they are effective and inspiring. The club tracks are lyrically disappointing, and the production doesn't always appeal to me. The hardcore underground aspect to the album is absent. While there are some great tracks here worth owning for any fan, this is far from their best effort.

The album starts very strongly, with the title track, a great song. The dramatic strings and choir singing in the beat make for a great musical backing, and the trio spits cocky and emotional rhymes in between an inspiring, fist-pumping chorus. "If U Scared" is a decent song, the triple-time raps are impressive but I don't really like the beat. "In a Mode" is easily one of the best songs here, a seductively produced slower song with heavy bass, a great harmonized hook and good rhymes by all parties, showing their unique sing-song rhyming pattern. Even Johnny P can't save the lyrically and musically flat "Keep It Real," an odd and unappealing blippy track with tired rhymes, their deliveries can only carry this song so far. The banging "Who Know?" is all right but forgettable. "Tha Heist" is pretty good, but again not very memorable, lyrically it is nice but musically kind of average. My favorite song is easily "La, La, La," a harmonious and very well produced song. It's catchy and has nice rhymes and singing with a great hook, like the very best Do or Die songs do. "Can U Make It Hot" has a very nice beat, but "V.I.P." begins the downward spiral of the album, a badly executed fluffy club track that approaches six minutes in length. The bass heavy "Bounce for Me" is terrible lyrically, another whack club track with a weak chorus. The more hardcore "If I Don't Eat" is better, and "Stay Focused" is inspiring and well produced, executed very nicely, a good slow and spiritual song. The following Ja Rule collaboration "Murders, Pimps + Thugs" is subpar, a horn-heavy club song with lyrics on cruise control. Once again, "Ride" is a failed club track. "Thuggin' It Out" is inconsequential, a collaboration with Fatal from Outlawz in unnecessary anger. The album ends on a better note, the nice "Already Know."

Even if you love Picture This and Headz or Tailz like I do, "Victory" might be disappointing. I think even Do or Die knew they had messed up with this album, titling their next disc Back 2 the Game and readapting their hardcore underground sound. "Victory has its worthwhile elements but is too frequently uninspired to make it among their best material.

5.0 out of 5 stars OK..., March 3, 2006
This review is from: Victory (Audio CD)
This cd isn't their best work, but it does have some good songs on it, like "Victory", "In A Mode", and others. I hate to say this but compared to the other Do or Die cds, this is probably the worst one, but compared to other rappers cd this is probably better than most. It's a good cd for Do or Die fans or just rap fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Victory is amazing, August 7, 2003
This review is from: Victory (Audio CD)
Victory in my opinion is the best Do Or Die album yet. I dont know why the other reviewers seem to disagree with me on this one. From track 1 to 17 the tracks are amazing. If you are to get any of the Do Or Die albums it should deffinately be this one first.
