Not quite what I expected,

This review is from: Victory Records Label Sampler (MP3 Download)
This sampler truly is a sampler in that it runs all over the place in its musical styles. I think it is mis-categorized in the "Rock/General" category as more than half of it is not what I'd call general rock. There is some good music on this sampler but some of the songs are what we used to call "metal" when I was younger. Lyrically and vocally a good portion of the tracks are questionable, leaving me to wonder just what it is that Victory is looking for in a band. Since the vocals are a key part of the music to me, I simply had to dump some of the songs. I ended up dumping tracks 3, 6, 11 and 12 as they were just too far out of my tolerance range. My tastes tend toward more classic rock and melodic rock styles, which may or may not assit in determining if anyone else's opinion will mimic my own. A minor word of warning: if you care about such things, track 10 has several f-bombs dropped for no apparent reason (in other words, unnecessary). This doesn't bother me so much except for the fact that my young children listen to my Zune and so I have to monitor that. If you have a similar situation, this is an FYI. For the price (free), it's worth a download and listen for most of the tracks on this sampler.

Not too shabby.,

There's some decent stuff here if you skip over horrible, horrible formulaic emo (lookin' at you, Hawthorne Heights). The good is good, the bad is bad, and in the end it all balances out to a mediocre three stars. But it's a free sampler, so it's hard to complain too much--trash the stuff you don't like and keep the rest.

Best Free Sampler.,

I've downloaded at least 8 of these free tracks. This is by far the best Amazon Sampler ever to hit the MP3 store!
