Book Description

Dr. Tony Evans, one of the most respected church leaders in the country, is the founder and senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, a thriving congregation of 8000. In this timely, unique exploration of spiritual warfare, Dr. Evans unveils a simple yet radical truth: every struggle and conflict faced in the physical realm has its root in the spiritual realm.

With passion and clarity, Dr. Evans demystifies spiritual warfare so that readers can tackle challenges and obstacles with spiritual power—God’s authority—as they:

  • understand how the battle is fought by Satan
  • actively use the armor of God
  • find strength in prayer and sufficiency in Christ
  • win over chemical, sexual, emotional, relational, and other strongholds

Dr. Evans is compelling, down to earth, and excited for believers to experience their victory in Christ and embrace the life, hope, and purpose God has for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satan's snare September 18, 2011
Format:Paperback
What can this middle aged black dude ( I say that with total respect ) say to this middle aged white dude?
Radio surfing while driving from work one Sunday I came upon a charismatic speaker. He spoke directly, honestly, without reservation. Directly from his heart to mine. As if he knew me.

Sunday I recite the words of the bible in pew #42, and I'm cleaned and forgiven.
Monday I'm all worked up about something or other and angry. I swear, I lie, I cut corners.
But never you mind, cause Sunday I'm going to the soulwash at church.
All shall be forgiven. While my spirit unknowingly rots deep within.
Little did I know there was a wall between Sunday and Monday. A wall built by demons.
Dr Evans enlightenment spoke directly to my existence and spirituality. As if he knew me.

So I bought this book not knowing if the message, if the charisma shall be as vivid and palpable as it was through his spoken words. Yes indeed it is! A crisp solid guidance through the spiritual war we fight daily. The truths of God's words. The truths of our misbehavior in direct conflict with God's laws. Our failure to turn to God, instead believing in our own society based norms.

Unknown to ourselves Satan quietly covertly separates our soul from the Words of Christ. Until we are as lost as a lamb could be. Surrounded by a masquerade of deception and evil.

Thank you Dr. Evans for your effort. It was by divine intervention that I happened upon your radio sermon.
You sir are truly a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.
Now I pray that I have true vision, and the strength to walk the path of righteousness.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am not a "Reader" but I can't put this book down March 2, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have never placed a review on anything I have purchased on Amazon. I have always enjoyed what I purchased and kept it to myself. I am overwhelmed by what Tony Evans brings to life in this book. I am a preacher myself and have studied the armor of God before. Tony Evans has been given an insight on spiritual warfare that makes is plain and puts it in a context that ANYONE can understand and start walking in victory. I sincerely from the bottom of my heart thank God that He moved Tony Evans to write this book. It has sincerely changed my life and I can see the hand of God move in my life because of the knowledge I have attained and placed into practice since reading this book. I am planning to purchase this book for special individuals in my life. This book is the next Purpose Driven Life...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not completely scriptural October 26, 2012
Format:Paperback
The material is a combination of powerful and some not scriptural. Tony Evans describes in the DVD the birth of Christ in a cultural way rather than a theological way. He takes liberties in quoting God, where God has not spoken..and certainly not in this way. He also says that all Christians have assigned to them individual angels of God and demonic angels as well. This is not in the Bible anywhere...and the scripture he uses to back it up is not applicable.
Much of the material in the book is true and powerful.

More About the Author

Dr. Tony Evans is one of the country's most respected leaders in evangelical circles. As a pastor, teacher, author and speaker, he serves the body of Christ through his unique ability to communicate complex theological truths through simple, yet profound, illustrations. While addressing the practical issues of today, Dr. Evans is known as a relevant expositor. New and veteran pastors alike regard him as a pastor of pastors and a father in the faith.

The first African-American to graduate with a doctoral degree from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS), he served as an associate professor in DTS' Pastoral Ministries Department in the areas of evangelism, homiletics and black church studies. He continues to serve DTS on the Board of Incorporate Members. Dr. Evans holds the rare honor of serving as chaplain for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks over the last three decades, the longest standing NBA chaplaincy on record. He also serves as chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys.

Through his local church and national ministry Dr. Evans promotes a Kingdom agenda philosophy that teaches God's comprehensive rule over every sphere of life as demonstrated through the individual, family, church and society.

This philosophy connects biblical spirituality with social responsibility. Dr. Evans teaches that the church, not the government, is the best social service delivery system since it is closer to the needs of the people, offers the largest potential volunteer force, has facilities for outreach programs, and provides a moral and spiritual frame of reference for making right choices.

At the heart of this vision is the use of church and school partnerships to effect spiritual and social change in communities. Dr. Evans' church and school outreach philosophy has been attributed as a catalyst for former President George W. Bush's Faith Based Initiative, which was his first formal act of office. Dr. Evans seeks to train churches, schools and volunteers in this philosophy, as well as in the functional practicalities, through the National Church Adopt-A-School Initiative which is a ministry underneath the umbrella of The Urban Alternative.

Dr. Evans has served as the senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship for over 35 years, witnessing its growth from ten people in 1976 to now over 9,000 congregants with 100 plus ministries.

Dr. Evans also serves as president of The Urban Alternative, a national ministry that seeks to bring about spiritual renewal in America through the church. His daily radio broadcast, The Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans, can be heard on more than 500 radio stations throughout the United States and in more than 40 countries.

Dr. Evans has written numerous books and booklets including his legacy work, Oneness Embraced, as well as his vision work, The Kingdom Agenda. Some of his most recent books include Kingdom Man, How Should Christians Vote, Marriage Matters, Between a Rock and a Hard Place and Victory in Spiritual Warfare.

Dr. Tony Evans is married to Lois, his wife and ministry partner of 41 years. They are the proud parents of four children, all who serve in ministry: Chrystal Hurst, Priscilla Shirer, Anthony, and Jonathan as well as the proud grandparents of ten: Kariss, Jessica, Jackson, Jesse, III, Jerry, Jr., Kanaan, Jude, Joel, Kelsey, Jonathan II.

Dr. Evans has received many honors, including the Father of the Year award voted by the Dallas Father of the Year Committee and the Marian Pfister Anshutz Award for "dedication to protecting, encouraging, and strengthening the American family" from the Family Research Center.
