You know, there's an awful lot of hype going on about these little critters . . . which one is best, which one works, etc! There are others out there, including the gorillapod, but for the most part, they're all the same!!! 3.0 out of 5 stars A good tripod within its limits
I bought the Vidpro GP-10 to use with my new Canon G-11. I purchased it mostly because of its portability and flexibility. It was also less expensive than the Gorillapod. This tripod truly is small enough to put inside my camera bag, and I envision using it to wrap around chairs and tree limbs. You know, there's an awful lot of hype going on about these little critters . . . which one is best, which one works, etc! There are others out there, including the gorillapod, but for the most part, they're all the same!!! I did tons of research and read dozens of online reviews from customers before finally spending a few bucks and trying out this one. First, and most importantly, spend a couple extra bucks and buy from a quality manufacturer, because if you don't, you DO get what you pay for. The other ones aren't worth much! That's all you need! This Vidpro Gripster model is identical to the gorillapod, and is significantly less expensive. It works great, its sturdy, stable, and holds a lightweight digital camera without ANY problems! It has a quick-release head that allows easy access for mounting and detaching the camera, and the construction is virtually indestructible heavy plastic and rubber parts. It does exactly what it says it does, and can hold onto most all surfaces with a little manipulation and patience. It DOES hold well to doorknobs, tree branches, table tops or table edges, the back of a chair, and can sit on very uneven surfaces such as large rocks on the edge of a lake. As long as you balance the camera on the tripod evenly, which can take a few seconds, you CAN get some great angles and shots when using this tripod over all other traditional mini-tripods.

I, for one, am really enjoying this little "monkey," and its also fun to just play with. Its kind of like a lego toy, but with more versatility and conventional functionality and use for digital cameras. You never have to be left out of family photos again!!! I highly recommend this little Gripster Tripod! Its a good buy, and a great little item. Unless you're a professional photographer that needs a larger tripod stand, you'll never need another tripod than this one!! It really does go everywhere!!!

I didn't get this for a camera, but for a digital recorder. I can wrap it around a door knob or a chair backing or a rail on a shelf, or just set it on a table. handy little device.

This tripod grips to pretty much anything! Its such a fun new toy! I took so many picture with it last night and they all came out very well! It's small, but that's also good because it's easier to grip it to things. It was also very cheap! I'm satisfied! I just hope it doesn't break anytime soon, it seems a bit fragile. Nothing has happened at all so far tho!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good tripod within its limits, July 28, 2010

I bought the Vidpro GP-10 to use with my new Canon G-11. I purchased it mostly because of its portability and flexibility. It was also less expensive than the Gorillapod. This tripod truly is small enough to put inside my camera bag, and I envision using it to wrap around chairs and tree limbs. But it is too light-weight to give the kind of steady support I want for my G-11 in most shooting situations, where I simply want to set the tripod on a level surface. It feels unstable and, in fact, has nearly tipped my camera over more than once. In these situations, if you want sharp photos, these little tripods are no substitute for a heavier, sturdier tripod (but then, they probably aren't intended to replace them). I suspect that the GP-10 probably works better with cameras lighter than my G-11. It is better than nothing in low-light situations or when the film speed makes it difficult to get sharply focused photos by hand-holding the camera. I'll continue to use the GP-10, but only as a backup or in situations where using a full-size tripod is difficult.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice little tripod for travel, but be careful!, December 5, 2010

I used this with my Canon S90 on a couple of vacations. I didn't feel like bringing an actual tripod in the luggage, so this little thing was perfect for that. When I started using it I was pretty pleased. It has a quick release so you don't have screw-in screw-out each time. The thing is SMALL though and you either have to place it on top of something or just be okay having viewpoints close to the ground. It's also about impossible to get a portrait shot with this unless it's attached to something vertical. It does work very well grabbing onto trees and such. However, when I found a really nice vista in one place all I had to grab onto was a fence and while trying to get the Vidpro attached, one of the joints broke. This pretty much rendered it useless.

I understand that the break was my fault and that you can't be too upset when a $10 dollar item breaks under the type of pressure I was using. So would I recommend this it others? Absolutely. It's a great little tripod that really excels for hiking trips.

Vidpro GP-10 - Tripod on the floor next to my stand up tripod. I bent it like this. It is ok. Good for my purposes but...
Just not as sturdy/strong as one that I saw my friend had of another brand. It wraps around things fine but the head tilts down when my camera is on it.
I have a small light canon digital camera and I think I only feel safe using it when I know the camera doesn't have far to fall.
Just not so confident in the strength of it, because of the tilting that happens.

However when you use it on surfaces where the head does not tilt, it works very well. The gripping legs are fine

Got this to use with my Vado pocket camera. Does everything they say it will and is well made. Because of it's bulk I recommend also ordering a spider tripod at same time, a spider will slip flat into your pocket with the camera.

I sometimes use Gripster as a pistol grip.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pure Junk / obviously a cheap knock-off, June 12, 2011

I have 2 original Joby Gorillapods, which work GREAT by the way, and was gonna buy a 3rd smaller one, but I saw this "Vidpro" dealio so figured I'd give this a try since it was so cheap.

Well, it IS cheap. Doesn't support a Sony HX5V at all (a whopping 6oz!!), totally loose at every joint. The rubbery "grippy" feet and such are anything but...more like hard plastic.

Clearly a cheap knock-off but not worth the hassle returning since it was only like $8. Where all these positive reviews are coming from I simply don't know, but let me tell you, IMHO this is just a plain rip-off. Spend the extra $$ and get a real Gorillapod, otherwise you'll be suckered into this lame thing like I was.

I was skeptical of the product because of its low price. Well, it would be a bargain at twice the price. It is a perfect match for the Flip camera I received for christmas. Since having this little wonder I have found myself using the camera much more often. I have no comparison to the products with higher price tags but have found no fault with this lesser priced option. I would recommend it to anyone.

Product looks, and works as described for the most part. The quality seems a little cheap, almost like a generic product. I have one of the tiniest digital cameras available (Canon PowerShot SD780 IS), and it supports the weight just fine. I wouldn't use it if the camera was much larger (most smallish point-and-shoots should work). I like that the small top piece can stay connected to the camera, while not using the tripod. If you want to use the tripod, simply click it into place. No real complaints.
