This hair dryer was used lightly each morning on a flat top hair cut. I have no complaints about how it worked, but it broke for no apparent reason about 6 months after I gave it to my husband as a gift. In the middle of the night, the plug started sparking and had to be removed from the outlet. Now the red reset button no longer clicks in. Seems like a safety issue to me, so I'm tossing it.

On the positive side, this hair dryer is very powerful. On the negative side, it's very heavy and makes it very difficult to hold above my head. Regarding the ionic technology, I can tell no difference between it and other hair dryers. Finally, when you close the handle of the hair dryer, it makes a loud snapping sound that makes me think it will break soon! I've used it just two weeks, so time will tell.

I'm surprised at all the other negative reviews I'm seeing for this dryer. I've had it over a year now, and couldn't be more pleased with it. It dries my hair efficiently in a matter of minutes and folds to a nice manageable size for easy storage, whether at home or when travelling. I travel quite a lot and never leave home without it. It's probably not the smallest hairdryer I've ever owned, even when folded, but it's still a convenient size. I have no complaints about the quality either. In the time that I've owned it, it's been subjected to quite a bit of wear and tear - being tossed around in my luggage (whether checked in or hand luggage), and plugged into all kinds of outlets (hotels, etc, where you never know about fluctuations and such) - but it's never given up on me. I agree that the loud clicking it makes when you fold it is unnerving at first (I was convinced I'd broken something the first time I did that) but once you get used to it, it's no big deal.

For the price, I think it's a great deal, and if the past year is anything to go by, I expect mine to last me many more years to come.

Follow-up (July, 2008): Had to add that I still have the dryer, I still use it, and it still works great.

I purchased one of these hair dryers and used it off and on for 2 months before the switch, which controls the off-low-high setting, started to slip internally. Now, I can only use the low setting on this hair dryer, which takes forever to dry my hair.

I bought this hair dryer and had it for a few months. within those few months it worked pretty well, but it wasn't any better than some of the hair dryers i have tried before. however, one day while I was using it, it started making sparks and shooting them out at my hair!! As you can imagine I was pretty alarmed and thought for a moment that my hair would catch on fire. luckily, it didn't, but my dryer went right in the garbage after that.
