What an incredible game!! I usually don't write reviews but I was so impressed with this that I had to share my thoughts. My son, 10 years old, is totally hooked on it. He loves being able to build his own levels and create his own game. There aren't any other games like this available. When he went to a neighbors house today he took his own game which he had burned onto a CD. They couldn't wait to play it. It is a very unique game that constantly uses their imagination and creativity. The boys say it is "the coolest"game they have ever played........Thank You!

My dad bought me this game for my birthday. I tried it out and made my own game. My friends loved my game so I made more. I think that this game is one of the best I have ever played because it allowed me to impress my friends and myself with the games I make. The building controls are easy and allow you to design your world from every aspect. I think this game will soar and even now my friends are wanting to buy it.

My 10 year son saved his money and purchased this software. He went on some web sites to find reviews and didn't have unrealistic expectations. He LOVES it. Its not a high tech game, but it lets him make enough decisions that he does feel like he has created a fun video game. He has a digital blue camcorder and plays RPG(another video game maker software), but he says that Video Game Tycoon is really cool.

After reading all the favorable reviews, my 11 yr old son decided to spend his saved up allowance to purchase this video game maker. Once it arrived in the mail, we rushed to install it on the computer only to discover the drivers on our about 3 yr old standard "home" computer drivers and some other technicalities weren't adequate to support the game. However, we did take it to a relative's house and installed it there and my son LOVED it! He found it easy to navigate and produce, and really appreciated the ability to burn to a disk.

We got this for our oldest son (13) this Christmas. He loved it and spent hours making his own game. Our other sons (10, 8 and 6) became interested. It is a little too challenging for the younger ones, but they can play the games the older ones create. Great to see them working together!

I got a pre-release copy of the gold edition just to see what this game was all about. I've always wanted to be able to design my own games but i having read other peoples reviews on rpg maker and first person shooter designer type games i was reluctant to spend the money & time just to make a really simplistic and boring game. Video Game Tycoon is good because although there are a fixed number of different types of object, weapon, bad guy, level objective etc. you really can mix them up in any way you please. There's a bit of trial and error involved in getting a new level to be fun to play but the last one i made i was a m1a1 tank inside a maze with walls that move when you shoot them and turret guns hidden around the corners, but the only way to beat the maze was to let this bomber gun thing shoot you so you jump in the air to the exit ramp - kind of like a mario driving a tank platformer shooter puzzle game... huh ???

This is a great game, however, I would not recommend buying it used. There is an ID and password required that can only be used once. I purchased this game used and soon found out that the ID and password were no longer valid because somebody else had already used them. I would recommend only buying from the official Gamesweet company that distributes the game.

He was able to design games and be involved in the process to get a game designed to be at his fun level. He also designed games for his sisters as well.

I don't like this one much. Maybe I was hoping for something more. Maybe the learning curve is too much.
Or maybe I've spent too many hours building Duke Nukem levels?
I was hoping to get some game knowledge out of this. How to st them up, sizing & things of that nature. The instructions are there, just not geared for a neophyte.
It's cheap enough to buy & try, but save up & try one of the other ones. Or a book. Not only did I get frustrated with it, I got bored.
I may putz around with it again some day, but it's not on my list right now.

This was a great buy, my son loves it! He was able to install the software himself at my surprise. His father is a software developer and we were wanting to see if our son would be interested in some type of computer science, sense he loves video games and art we decided to try and ease him in with this software because its nothing serious so he wont become overwhelmed yet he could get some confidence as we ease him into what could be his future passion. Whatever path he chooses it still gives him something to be creative with and I like that.
