From School Library Journal
Grade 4-8?This title should enthrall aficionados with its simple text, clever graphics, sidebars and photographs, and clear explanations of the design and implementation of video games. Erlbach has kept her material concise, highlighting glossary words when they appear in the text, and including pointers on how to win, how to choose home games, and care and maintenance. It's a smart, simple book that shouldn't sit around on the shelf.?Judie Porter, Media Services Center, Portsmouth School Department, RI

Gr. 4^-6. Middle-grade readers no doubt prefer playing video games to reading about them. Nevertheless, they may still be interested in learning about how these games evolved (it all started with pinball) and what makes them work. Sharp color graphics as well as above-standard photographs do their best to capture that video feeling, and there is also information about game design and programming and tips on how to win. A glossary is appended. Ilene Cooper
