This review is from: Video (Audio CD)
Its a song about being true to oneself. And I respect someone for actually putting a song out with great lyrics! Also the tune is GREAT! I thought she was a wanna-be at first, but soon realized she wasn't and I now have newfound respect for this soulfull artist! Video was a smart move for a first single! TO BAD it wasn't released here to buy! I suggest purchasing "Accoustic Soul" if you like this song!God Bless ~Amy

India.Arie is one of the most talented artist to come out of the last decade. The 2001 classic 'Video' was a lyrically brillant track. It was empowering, geniune, authentic, real w/ a positive message. The copy I have is a U.S. release. Although stated above that there was no U.S. single there was a promotional single released. It contains the following tracks or rather versions of the single 'Video': 1. Main Version, 2. Instrumental, 3, Acappella and 4. Call Out Hook. If you can find the version I have or even the Import of the track its well worth the money.

beautiful, beautiful song........powerful message...,

This song sounds just as refreshing, today, as it did a couple of years ago (when it was initially released). The great power in India. Arie's music is her great combination of wit and wisdom. "Video" is a stirringly beautiful piece, riding on the strength of the guitar arrangement, alone. India combines sounds that are reminiscent of Ritchie Havens (a great, great singer/songwriter/performer from the 1960s, a Woodstock veteran), as well as more neo-soul sounds (some of which could be rooted in the inspirations of Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and others). As far as the lyrics go, they are comparable to none ("Sometimes I shave my legs and sometimes I don't/Sometimes I comb my hair and sometimes I won't/Depending on how the wind blows, I might even paint my toes"). Though, these sound like observations, all in all, this piece is rooted in the philosophy of affirming one's individuality and inner beauty as a woman. Every woman needs to listen to this song. India is a poet and storyteller. Truly beautiful......

MUSIC THAT SOOTHES THE SOUL,

I was extremely capivated by India Aries Acoustic Soul CD. When asked by several peers about the new artist, I replied that she was seen in my eyes as an urban Tracey Chapman. I loved the CD from beginning to end. She reaches the cortex of ones soul, with deep melodic sensitivity. Every track appears as if the artist was personally healing as well as rejuvenating her listeners inner self. Personal favorites on the CD are Beautiful and Wonderful which is a tribute to Stevie Wonder. I am forever grateful to India Arie for sharing her acoustic soul with the world.
