5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for analog scrambling.
Personally, I liked this book so much. It brings many information and classical circuits and patented for scrambling of video signals. The approach, however, is for systems NTSC. It also brings information on digital coding.

2.0 out of 5 stars For electronics experts only!
This book is geared towards electronics engineers. Unless you own at least an ocilloscope and a lot of other electronics equipment, this book will be useless to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate reference book on the subject, April 1, 1997

This review is from: Video Scrambling & Descrambling: for Satellite & Cable TV (Paperback)
I have been using this book for a little while now, and I had to just buy my own copy (some "friends" I have :) ). If you have some signal processing background, this is the book for you, but it is probably too technical for the average electronics tinkerer or computer geek. It provides great explinations and useful circuits that let you dive into the world of cable scrambling and descrambling. The theorys presented in this book can also be used to scramble signals on other kinds of systems for semi-safe transmission

2.0 out of 5 stars 50% Useful; 50% Useless, June 8, 2003

Half of the book's pages are regarding the topic but the rest are descriptions of various ICs(Integrated Chips) that are used. These information are useless unless they are intended to describe specific ICs being used in a circuit project. These information are normally taken from Chip Manufacturer Circuit Manuals which are called "Databooks"

Having or not having these IC information in this book will have no difference.

This book will suit electronics engineers and physicists as this book is heavy on theory and measurements. It is not intended for electronic experimenters or enthusiasts who are more interested on the practical side of electronics and physics.

If you are the type who wants to put electronics into action or is the type who wanted to use eletronics knowledge to build a working circuit on Video Scrambling, etc. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. This is not for you.

But if you are the type of person who loves the Theoretical side of Electronics being applied on Video Scrambling, then BUY THIS BOOK! I'm sure you'll love all the explanations backed by quantitative measurements this book covers on Video Scrambling and Descrambling.
