Editorial Reviews

Product Description

VIDEOCRACY is a queasy-funny and unapologetically biased look at the televisual world that the Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, has created. As if you were watching a transmission from another planet, the media mogul and politician (he was elected for a third term in 2008) has a monopoly hold on Italian television and some say, helped put the boob (and lots of them) on the Italian tube. Berlusconi is often in the news himself for his political machinations, outrageous observations, sexcapades and persistent charges of corruption. This gripping documentary captures it all.

Review

Riveting viewing, at times bizarre at other times horrifying but always impossible to turn away from. --Todd Brown, Twitch

It takes a really good documentary to get five stars from me, but this one was outstanding. This film not only documented what is taking place in Italy, it told a compelling story. I found myself grateful for the villain of the movie because I felt that he was a necessary evil to balance out what the President has done to that country. If I ever thought America was bad, I am certain it is not as bad as Italy. This film had me captivated the whole time and I can see why the director won awards for it. This is a must see documentary. It will have you mesmerized and leave you disturbed.

In the world press freedom index Italy is ranked 77th. In the world list of gender equality 84th and 80% of Italians use TV as the main source of information where 90% of media is controlled by the seventh richest Italian Silvio Berlusconi with a $6.2 billion capital who was the President of Italy from 2001 to 2008. Watching this dark documentary is disturbing but it is the reality of Italy. You really get to understand the Italy through this documentary. Real sad third world country system...

Italian story of Berlusconi's rise to power through media. Engaging and thoughtful dive into the cross section of media and politics, people and power.
