LOTS OF INFORMATION,

This review is from: Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever 2010 (Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever) (Paperback)
This book has everything you could want when it comes to information regarding movies. I bought it for my father-in-law and he has had his head buried in it ever since. He is just delighted with it and all the information it gives him. Would recommend it to anyone who is a movie buff from the early 1900's to present day. Very happy with this purchase!

Videohound is a super resouce; had my last edition for years and decided to replace it when 2009 published. I use mine all the time for finding out FAQ about actors, directors, etc for my buds. Easy to use and less biased than other such publications

It's a great reference book; BUT it should not be published until all the 2009 movies have been released. Although this is a 2010 reference book, most movies released in the last half of 2009 are not included. Like the World Almanac, these reference books should not be released prior to February of the year.

Great book but the print is getting too small,

This book has been an excellent resource for years but is now reaching a point in reduced type size that makes me get out an older edition for anything but the newest movies. I hate to think what the type will be in the next few years if they continue in this fashion! I think that one reviewer's suggestion about making an edition in two volumes and maybe charging a little more for it is an excellent idea - or perhaps getting really thin but high quality paper to create more pages in the same space.

Any library strong in movies and videos must have the 2010 edition of VideoHound's Golden Movie Retriever. It packs in over 2,000 small-print pages of detail on movies and references to films on VHS, DVD, and hi-def formats, offering at-a-glance info on various formats, plots, years of production and more. If it's not listed in VideoHound, it likely doesn't exist. General lending libraries will want to keep this in their reference areas.

This is a prodigious volume but it does not have everything in it. In the past few weeks there were three movies not listed but I found them in the 1994 issue by Leonard Maltin.
Over-all a very useful volume.

Trivia for Passionate Moviegoers,

This review is from: Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever 2010 (Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever) (Paperback)
To consider this book as just another list of movies is a big mistake ! Indeed, the book contains a veritable goldmine of list upon list not found elsewhere or on the companion Website (
[] is available free for everyone not only readers of Videohound Retriever). Central to the guide and indexes is the Dog's Opinion rating scale (from woof - no bones to four bones) for movies. Each movie review is packed with concise details comprising not only a rating but nearly 20 items. I continue to purchase the hardcopy editions but a Kindle version would prove to be an extremely useful asset to make random searches but with the publication of the 2011 version an e-version is no where to be seen. Nontheless, the lists are what make the guide. The Kibbles and series list /index is but one to dwell upon providing information on adaptions (e.g. from a : carton, fairytale, Disney park ride, Marvel comic, play, book...), movies series, collaborations and partnerships (e.g. Bob Hope and Bing Crosby or Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese. Other indexes include Awards, Cast & Director, Cinematographer, Composer, Writer. A 12 page Web site guide rounds out the resources. My only negative with the 2010 edition is the 8 pages listing the screen names of the online community. Not a very useful resource or good look for someone who pays good money for the guide. A useful addition to this list could have been a summary citing the most frequently used actor, film or genre based names.

The book has more film entries than any other publication that I know. The additional cross-references are also helpful to find the correct name of a film. So far the reviews have been close to our own opinions.
