I wanted this item for a 12 hour plane trip in February but started searching and buying in September. Now in November it's sold out here and in most stores. We have used ours for about 3 weeks now and my daughter loves that she can turn it on and off by herself. She could change the PVDs by herself, but in order to keep her fingerprints off of them I do it myself. The PVDs come in a great selection IF you can find them. The screen is small but has an impressively clear picture and there is a dial to adjust the contrast for different lighting situations.I can't wait to take this on our plane trip because I LOVE to watch Dora and Sesame Street as much as my daughter does! I have also purchased the Video Now Color headphones and the Video Now Jr. case.

I bought this for my 5 yr old special needs child. She absolutely loves it. It makes waiting in lines, long car rides bareable. I think an adapter for this toy would be good. We are going through batteries like crazy!! More Barney movies would be good too!
Tip for when the screen goes black-- You need new batteries. Trust me I should know.

My brother bought my daughter an Elmo VideoNow disk for Christmas thinking it was a regular DVD. We waited until now to get her the player as she was just barely 2 in December (6 months can make a lot of difference at this age). We just got her the player and she loves it. She figured out how it works in no time flat. She knows colors and shapes so the colored, shaped buttons sort of reinforce what she already knows. It seems very durable but I suggest getting the carrying case to help protect against spills, etc. It also has a handle and a place to store a few extra disks. One reviewer was disappointed that it did not come with a disk but ours did. It came with some previews of Nick Jr shows and a full length episode of Dora. As for the batteries, it does drain them but like another reviewer said, get rechargables. I think this is a nice alternative to a DVD player for a child so small. Even though it's a bit expensive (I only paid $50 for ours at Walmart) it is still cheaper than a portable DVD and more durable too.

I bought this for my 2 year old and she loves it. I take it with us when we go shopping. She sits in her stroller, or grocery cart and is entertained while I do my shopping. The great thing about this is that it ALSO PLAYS the regular videonow shows in it. When they are older they can watch the other videos on this one too. This is such a wonderful thing. I would recommend it for kids of all ages. I think the videonow jr is a little more durable then the regular one for little ones, since it has rubber around the edges to protect it when they drop it. I wish the videos were a little cheaper, but it is definitely worth the money.

My daughter got this for her 4th birthday in Febuary. I was not too happy with my brother for purchasing her one, because I felt she wouldnt understand how to use it and would become bored.
Well this has been our LIFESAVER. It came with a full length Dora disk (I cant emphisize how much this kid LOVES dora) and I was able to purchase alot at target (elmo, dora, wiggles, spongebob, rugrats, rolie polie olie, and more!) and she now has a collection of 10. This proved to keep her occupied on our plane trip (she wasnt too interested in watching the Forest Gump movie that they were playing) and she LOVES it. It is kept in its case (although my daughter says it doesnt look as nice like that) and has been dropped on concrete, carpet, tile, our deck, grass EVERYWHERE and holds up great. She isnt allowed to watch it all that much, (only on those long car rides, trips to the mall ect) because they do eat up batteries. I found out if you buy enegizer they may last 2-3 hours of useage, and ALWAYS keep some in a recharger (we dont go through too many now). Even my 10 month olds love watching Video Now Jr. and they CAN take the regular video now disks. The buttons are large and colorful, easy for a toddler to use. Its not one of those microscopic and dull toys that will be lost if it falls in the grass, its easy to spot and hasnt been lost once! The picture isnt as clear as a regular television, and my daughter does get fustrated when she has to angle it perfectly, but its still a great toy. The sound isnt all that loud, and she will wear headphones, but its MUCH easier to hear than I though, crystal clear! Its just like a portable DVD player, just easy for the toddlers! Its tough to find the PVDs, but we found almost all of ours at a Target Superstore, they are selling better now that the holidays are over. Just a great gift for ANY child, and much more stable than the regular Video Now.

I have been searching for a long time now for just the right portable dvd player to entertain my 3 year old son on car and plane trips. Have always hesitated to take the plunge with an expensive player (and you get what you pay for so the cheapies were not an option)...I am so glad I waited and fortunately this toy came out from Playskool. It is perfect for the oh so independent toddler/preschooler who insists on doing it his/her way. Not only is this entertaining to your little one, but you don't have to subject the rest of the family to endless kiddy shows on your big tv...and they are perfectly happy to have something of their own...makes them feel so independent and important.
Since this is still so new, it is still difficult to get the discs as well as the carrying cases, but do some research and you will find that Target, Walmart and Toys R Us will carry what you need eventually. I purchased mine at a Toys R Us retail store...some stores seem to have plenty of players but no discs or carrying cases. You will also find that many people are selling them on Ebay but you will pay a higher price (if you are desperate as Xmas draws closer). Otherwise, Walmart has a nice player/case bundle at a great price. I gave ours to my son a couple of days ago, and he has quickly figured out how to work the buttons. You probably won't want them to handle the discs yet as they can scratch, but half the battle is that they ask you for a disc so you do retain some control...and they are watching shows that you are safe/non-violent. My son is typical of his age and he can watch one disc over and over again...the forward and reverse buttons prolong the viewing of one disc. One set of 3 AA batteries lasted us 24 hours as he was in and out of wanting to be entertained by the player...which is fine by me...no mindless staring of a screen so you are not really using the videos to babysit. It might be described as a toy...but I sure wish they had selections for parents. Then I would have to get my own player. It is a bit pricey...but it delivers exactly what is promised...durability, quality and FUN! And you won't worry about your child breaking your $600 portable dvd player. Don't hesitate in getting one!

My 2 yr old daughter thinks this is the greatest thing since cheerios! Very durable, easy for little ones to use, and safe to operate. All of her favorite shows from spongebob and the wiggles to Elmo. This item is great for road trips too. A little expensive, but worth the price when you see your childs face light up. Grab the disks when you can, they are very popular and hard to find!

Our 18 mo. old son loves this thing! The picture and sound quality aren't great, but little kids don't tend to notice as long as they can see Wiggles, Elmo, Dora, etc. Its very durable, if you leave the case on...he's dropped it 1000 times and no problems. As far as what one reviewer said about battery life...there is an amazing invention called "rechargable batteries" I suggest you look into them. Great toy, great price.

I bought two of these for my two kids (ages 3 & 5)for Chistmas. They absolutely love them, they bring it everywhere that they have gone since getting them from Santa. The big "Chunky and Colorful" buttons are very easy for them to use. The battery life is not as long as I expected them to be but, I was prepared and bought a few large packs of batteries just in case.
I was warned by a neighbor that already had one for their son that the screen easily scratched and recomended buying the case (which is very nice). I was also impressed by the selection Nick Jr and Noggin shows that can be purchased on disk. Also as a bonus you can use the Video Now Color Disks also so the kids can also watch their favorite "Nick" cartoons also. I hope that this review was helpful

Ours has been dropped from a cart onto the concrete floors of a warehouse club. Hardly skipped and is no worse for the wear.
If the screen is going black almost immediately after being turned on, and there's still sound - the batteries need to be changed, that's all! Ours doesn't get used too regularly, but that's because I won't allow it (not at home, not just around town). For trips, or long appointments, etc it's a lifesaver! We've had ours for almost a year now, and besides replacing batteries, ours has been a workhorse! |
