5.0 out of 5 stars Better than a DVD player for a 4 year old
WE had considered getting our 4 year old a portable DVD player, but decided to buy a Videonow Jr. She loves it and so do we! She's watching her favorite shows Dora, Blues Clues, Sesame Street and Max & Ruby! Our daughter quickly figured out how to work it. The screen is small but the picture is great. Last night we watched it in bed together. Very cool toy- I would have...

Okay, based on good reviews I bought this toy for my daughters birthday along with three videos. She LOVES Nick Jr. and I loved the ruggedness and the portablilty. We have a portable DVD player, but I wanted something she could hold and not break. The problem is it sounds scratchy a lot! The screen gets fuzzy and makes a hissing sort of noise. We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old son. He hates his car seat and longer car rides so we hoped he would enjoy this and make car rides easier. Thankyou Hasbro!!!!

We were deciding between the Videonow Jnr. or a regular portable dvd player for around fifty dollars more. We chose the Jnr. as our son would have broken a real portable dvd player in less than 10 mins. The Jnr. is extremely sturdy with rubber bumpers around the corners and thick raised plastic edges around the screen and buttons. It has already survived a couple of falls from up high onto the ground without a scratch.

The unit itself is easily held by our son and the screen is the perfect size for him to watch up close. The color screen actually looks quite good and the sound is also better than I would have expected for the price. The contrast control and backlight lets you see the screen fine in any lighting condition. The contrast and volume controls are also out of the way so you can set it just right and your young child won't be able to change the settings and get upset over not being able to see the picture. One thing we absolutely love is once the video disc is inserted into the player it is all but impossible for our son to get it out and play with it as you need two strong hands to eject the disc. This is great as our son loves to play with dvds and scratch them up!

This player takes 3 AA batteries and you will want to use alkalines. Non-alkalines will last only 1 hour but alkalines last the stated 5 hours easily. Our only misgiving is the battery compartment uses screws so you will either want to make sure you have fresh batteries before the car ride or carry a small screwdriver in the glove compartment to change batteries on the road. However this also has the plus our son cannot open and take out the batteries which he would have easily figured out to do without the screws.

Our son loves the Wiggles and we are happy there are a few Wiggles titles to choose even if you have to try about 5 different stores to find them. I guess they are very popular. You can also play any of the regular color discs on the Jnr. Each episode runs about 20 mins but our son loves to skip backwards and forwards which he can easily do with the chunky well placed buttons so one disc will last him many hours.

We also looked at the Juicebox player but the Jnr. wins hands down. The Juicebox has no titles for young kids and the picture and sound is terrible. It would also break in the hands of a 2-3 year old.

We are thoroughly impressed by the Jnr. I would gladly pay twice the price for it. It is extremely well made and the video library for it is huge and growing all the time. Can't wait for Crocodile Hunter to make it to Videonow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great entertainment for toddlers!, March 21, 2005

My son got the Video Now Jr. for Christmas and it has been a big hit.

Some of the nice features of the Jr. include:

*Bigger Buttons for smaller fingers. (Play, Stop, FF, Rev)

*Double slide latches to open cover. This makes it more difficult for little ones to open the unit and mess with disk or damage the lens.

*Looks and feels durable. Ours has been dropped plenty of times and keeps working.

It does use batteries faster than other toys, but it hasn't been an issue since we keep recharables around.

Age two might be a little young for this toy. My son like to use the buttons like a video game (making elmo say the same 2 words over and over and over) . . . he also likes to tap it to make it skip. But these things are more annoying than harmful to the Video Now Jr.

Overall this is a great toy. My son loves it and takes it everywhere we go. The disks available are great (Wiggles, Sesame Stree, Dora, Blues Clues.) It also play regular Video Now Color disks. It is one of the most used toys in our house!

I tried changing the batteries like it suggested figuring maybe it just ate them up quickly--but new batteries did not solve the problem. We have had this 5 days and after hearing my daughter say "mommy fix it" over and over again, this toy will go back to ToysRus this weekend. What a disappointment.

My son is your typical 3 yr old who loves to watch his daily does of nick jr.... Now, we can take it with us everywhere!!! It's very easy to work and very durable for those slippery hands!! It's especially wonderful to bring on those long trips to keep him occupied. And the best part is I know he is watching something positive and mind stimulating. The only bad thing is that the video library is very small... but i'm sure, like any new product, there will be more added to the collection.

We purchased the video now JR for my 3 year old son. We make a lot of 2 hr trips to family, so figured this would be good for in the car. The screen is small, but good quality. The battery life is pretty good. It seems to last at least 20 hours on 3 AA batteries (closer to 10 hrs when using rechargeables).

the one major negative about this player is the fact that the discs it plays are proprietary. You cannot play regular DVDs on this, nor can you play the discs on a DVD player. They do not cost that much, however and the episodes available are pretty good. My son has over 15 discs and he watches it even at home.

I got the VideoNow Jr.for my daughter. She loves it. I also got the carry case for it but it did not fit the Jr. player so I lost money when I had to send it back.

My 2 year old son received the Video Now Jr. as a birthday gift and totally loves it. Yes it does use up a lot of battery power and I need to keep up a decent supply of extra batteries in my purse, but it's worth it when it keeps him occupied at the bank, post office, doctor's office, etc...

Be careful when ordering this item if you are purchasing it based on its description. It is a great product but the player sold by Amazon does not include the bonus PVD indicated in the items description. It is just the VideoNow player.

This is so handy for short trips and Drs. appts. My 5 year old loves it. It doesn't suck the life out of batteries like I thought it would and it is so durable. It has been dropped plenty of times and still works perfectly. The volume controls make it so that you don't feel the need to throw it out the window. It really is a great item that will last!
