5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden gems from Schulze's golden age

3.0 out of 5 stars Already own previous sets
I already own the Silver Edition, Historic Edition, and Jubilee Edition.

Do I need to buy these 3CD comps again? Just to get bonus tracks?

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden gems from Schulze's golden age, September 8, 2010
This review is from: La Vie Electronique 3 (Audio CD)

I'm a lifelong Schulze fan (hence my amazon.com pseudonym), but even the prospect of delving into his massive, sprawling back catalog has seemed too overwhelming and time-consuming to be bothered with. Further, I've been mildly disappointed by the bonus tracks that have showed up on some of his remastered albums, and assumed that the La Vie Electronique series would contain the same kind of material: acceptable but uninspired tracks that lack the rich textures of his studio albums. While I can't speak yet for the other albums in this series, this assumption was very wrong.

While indeed La Vie Electronique 3 in some cases relies more heavily on minimalist analog synth sequences, the album's soaring atmosphere and Gothic landscapes fit right alongside the best of his catalog, particularly since they were created around the same time as his classics Moondawn and Timewind. Some of these pieces were recorded live in cathedrals, and you can hear it. Aside from being able to hear the sound of warm, percolating synths ricocheting off stone walls, there must have been something in the air when these were recorded, since these inspired tracks perfectly accompany the dark, atmospheric spaces in which many were recorded. And at $20 for three CDs, the price is certainly right. This set is essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars so good im buying every set in this series!, October 9, 2010
This review is from: La Vie Electronique 3 (Audio CD)
Simply put fantastic- a wealth of material all from the early analog cosmic space era- great packaging and considering you get over 3 and a half hours of music over three discs- an informative booklet and as ive said the best of the schulze years this is a must own. Im already ordering all the other sets 1-5 and for 16$ a piece its the best deal ive seen for any artist in a long time! Ideal nightime and wintertime listening! Puts most other ambient music to shame!

5.0 out of 5 stars KS LVE 3, August 7, 2010

LVE 3 is a continuation in a series of current and retrospect KS music that would have been otherwise very expensive or impossible to attain.I currently rediscovered my love for pure electronic music (I do not consider techno or any of the current "soothing" music to be even in the same category)having been a fan for years prior.being originally from Germany i developed a liking for KS Tangerine Dream,Michael Rother and other artist from the Berlin school.Despite the fact that some of the material is hard to get into the classical training and following intricacies of this music are interesting and wonderful to listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosmic Music, July 21, 2010

What can I say it's Klaus. For those of you who are not familiar with Klaus Schulze, he is one of the innovators of cosmic synth music. If you're looking at buying some "best of" Klaus Schulze this series is how to do it. Klaus collectors it's different story for you. A lot of this music has come from other sources. So if you own the Historic, Jubilee, Silver, etc. editions you'll hear much of the same stuff you already own. There is very little "new" if you already own the compilations. I buy just because it's Klaus.
