5.0 out of 5 stars Pilaf is what you make with rice.
I wonder why a person would buy an album without knowing anything about it. Especially one that is obviously in French. In these days when a female singers talent is measured by her bra size divided by her age it is a pleasure to hear a woman with character in her voice. Edith Piaf is like a boxer whose every fight is recorded on their face. Her life is in her voice. From...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought
I purchased this album hoping for the rich sound of a classic song. If you are an Edith Pilaf fan, you will probably enjoy this CD. I will continue my search because I don't like the grainy vocal quality of this person. If you are someone whose French is a little rusty...don't look for a translation in lyrics. There are none. Edith Pilaf fans..enjoy! All...

From her childhood in a French brothel, to being blind for several years, to working with the resistance during WWII while singing for the Germans, to losing her only true love in a plane crash. It is all there every time she opens her mouth to sing. You don't have to even speak French to feel it. There are a few of her songs that I wish were on this album but they are all wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Rice, December 11, 2004
This review is from: La Vie En Rose (Audio CD)
I've been listening to this album constantly lately, and logged on to order it for my dad for Christmas, and was shocked to see the 3 1/2 star average rating, but finding that there were only two reviews cleared it up for me. I am madly in love with this woman's voice. Fans expecting a perfectly round ball of white rice to go with their Mongolian Beef may be disappointed, but to all others I whole-heartedly recommend this magical album.
