2.0 out of 5 stars Alejandro, por favor....
I declined to review A CORAZON ABIERTO because I was disappointed, but at least Alejandro redeemed those songs on the live CD that followed.

Here I have to say I was more disappointed. Perhaps in a quest to widen his audience Alejandro has taken on lesser material which is not up to his truly amazing voice. Anyone who listens to this CD to hear him for...

5.0 out of 5 stars He can just sing anything . . ., July 26, 2007

. . . with this voice. This is definitely adult pop, the direction Alex's music has been taking for the last few years now. He's matured and so has his voice; it's much more resonant and you hear that better singing ballads and this type of smooth pop than the traditional mariachi music. Hard to pick a favorite here, but "Te Voy A Perder" and "Sin Consideracion" are the songs most likely to appeal across genres. Alex is sure to win some new fans with this mix. Even if you don't speak Spanish, he still makes you feel the mood of his songs and you will believe you understand what he's singing. He is La Voz (The Voice).

Anyone who listens to this CD to hear him for the first time will not know what his fans rave about or why women throw their bras onstage when he performs. The breathiness of his singing on this CD omits 90% of his supberbly sexy lower register, which is one of the traits that wins female hearts and plays with their hormones.

Those of us who fell in love with the voice we heard in "Morenita Mia" or "Granada" on his earlier live album almost don't recognize what we're hearing on this one in songs like "Tanto Amar" or "Solitario y Solo." Some of the songs on this CD are better suited to Ricky Martin and I felt that Beyonce ran roughshod over him in "Amor Gitana."

I hope he realizes that expanding his repertoire should not alientate his core audience. We'd rather hear him try tango or flamenco, which would at least use the most emotive elements of his truly fine voice while adding to his mystique.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, September 30, 2007

I never thought that I would love this album.
I bought it because I like the cover and amazon
recommended it. I almost love every track in this
album, especially Estabas Ahi, Solitario Y Solo,
Amenaza De Lluvia. If you like pop latin with
soft, mellow, and ballad songs, you should buy this
album. You won't regret it.

Alejandro has a very pleasant voice that projects real feelings in the words he is expressing. Whether he sings pop or rancheras his voice captures the listener.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as previous CD's, August 24, 2007
This review is from: Viento a Favor (Audio CD)
After the fanfarre, I expected a better album. There are two songs I like and the rest are re-hash of previous musical arrangements with different lyrics.

A bit disappointing

What a mistake this one was... His Ranchero stuff is absolutely wonderful. This is junk. Sorry.

Look elsewhere and listen carefully before you buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars He is a Jewel of an artist, September 29, 2010

A few years ago, I became a fan of Alejandro's music. So naturally, I had to go backwards with his albums and listen to them. At first, I only listened to 3 songs on this album, "Te Voy a Perder", "Eres" and "No Se Me Hace Facil." But recently, I sat down and listened to the entire album and I have to say I am so sad I didn't give this album a chance earlier. It is a beautiful album with beautiful, poetic lyrics. Of course this album would be nothing if he didn't sing them. He has one of the most strongest voice in the industry right now. He can sing anything and make it sound beautiful.
The highlights of this album:
Te Voy a Perder
Amenaza de Lluvia
Eres
No Se Me Hace Facil
Estabas Ahi
Sin Consideracion
Amor Gitano (a duet with Beyonce.)

Beautiful album! So proud to be a fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars His best album so far., November 4, 2008

Alejandro Fernandez is a very versatile singer who has a very good voice and performs very good aswell. He is a Grammy Award winner and has been singing for several years. He first started singing Rancheras as his father, the great Vincente Fernandez and sience 1997 he has been releasing some pop albums. Personally I just like his pop albums, because I don't like rancheras but I know that hi is very good in that field.
Anyway, that was just a little introduction that I wanted to make in case you didn't know much about him.

In 2007 "Viento a favor" was released and came with a big production including some big names in latin music business as songwriters including Sin Bandera's Leonel Garcia and Reyli Barba (a great mexican singer who writes for some big names and is also known for being in the past the lead singer of "Elefante"). This album also has a duet with Beyonce on "Corazon Gitano".
All 12 songs are very good. They go from ballads to songs with more rhythm, the lyrics are very good and another good thing is that the songs are in a good order that lift you up and then relax you.
Among the best ballads for me, there are "No se me hace facil", "Sin consideracion" and the first single "Te voy a perder" which was a very big hit in Latin America, Spain and the U.S. In the case of the songs with more rhythm, my favorites are "A manos llenas", "Eres" and "Sueño contigo". The three songs are really, really good. The lyrics and the sound are great.
If you like Alejandro, I know that you'll like this album. If you want another cd from him, try "A corazon abierto" from 2004.
