From the green jungle to the concrete jungle.,

This review is from: Vietcong 2 (CD-ROM)
OK here it goes: Vietcong 2 is a great game despite the lack of jungle fever meaning instead of fighting through the jungles of vietnam you fight through the urban jungle of Hue City in S. Vietnam battling through the Tet Ofensive of 68'.
The atmosphere in the U.S. campaign is pretty intense because you battle through the streets of Hue City and from house to house, building to building, street to street urban fighting. Though short, the campaign improves the gameplay with great cut sceens and imersion factor raised a bar. The Vietcong campaign is way to short but includes some jungle fighting as you make your way to Hue City. Graphics are right on par with this series and since I have a powerful rig, I was able to use the highest settings for the game. The detail looks better than in 2003 Vietcong but for some reason the vegitation looks the same or close to what it looked like in Vietcong. Sound is great from authenic weapon sounds to explosions to dialog that makes you feel your accually there. Replay value is weak but like Viecong 1 you can replay the missions on any diffucult level and even go to multiplayer for some head to head dm, tdm, ctf, or coop play. The coop play only has four maps and I would like to see this extended because playing against the bots is a blast alone or with some friends just like the single player campaign. Hopefully they will release some more coop maps here soon or release a map editor so players can design their own maps for coop and other types of multiplayer game types. Overall, a great sequal to the Vietcong series. Most reviewers are giving this bad reviews because of it's brief campaigns and lack of replay value but don't be fooled, I've played a lot of war shooters and the Vietcong series including this one is one of the best!

I originally loved the Vietcong demo and the online shoot em up that this game offers. So it was natural for me to want to get the latest offering on the series. I was not disappointed with what I got. First of all, I am stationed in Afghanistan, and I highly expected that it would be around 2-3 weeks before I got my product, but Amazon was very quick and timely in shipping this item to me in only 10 days from the US to my hands on this base. Excellent product, and worth every dollar it costed to pay for it!

I realize I'm in the minority here, but I loved VC2. True, they (mostly) lost the jungle setting of the original game, and the original game is a classic that's hard to top, but Pterodon Studios is the same developer that made the first game, and it shows. Gameplay is still excellent, just in a different setting. I thought a lot of the level design was superb. A lot of the settings are still burned into my mind. The opening levels are a bit unintentionally humorous...for instance, you are at a party wandering around amongst the guests, and the 'fire' button causes you to raise your wineglass in a toast. But it's actually part of the story, so I had no problem with that.
The game's engine appears to be a slightly updated version of the engine used in the original game. For me, this meant that my framerates were pretty low, even considering my high-end (for the time) machine. I was one of those that thought the graphics engine was actually beautiful to look at, however, it could have used more optimization to get it to run faster. I finished both games just fine, but there were many times my framerates would fall below 20 fps, and it didn't matter how I tweaked the graphics settings. So if you buy this game, be prepared. You may have trouble with framerates no matter what you do. But even then, I think it's a great game to have.
