Vietnam veteran McDonald's bibliography provides sparse data for each of its approximately 3000 entries: main author (additional authors are uncited), title, publisher, and place/date of publication only. Arranged alphabetically by author--with no cross references, no indexes by subject or title, no annotations--the book contains punched, typewritten sheets in a looseleaf binder, an unacceptable format for many collections. Fiction/nonfiction coverage focuses on the period of U.S. involvement, though McDonald also cites such earlier books as those by French journalist Bernard Fall. The inclusion of some obscure works, including several self-published memoirs, might make this a supplement to Richard D. Burns and Milton Leitenberg's Wars in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, 1945- 1982: A Bibliographic Guide (ABC-Clio, 1984), which is indexed and better organized. For comprehensive subject collections only.
