More About the Author

Born and raised in Oakland, CA I've had an interest in American history since forever. Choosing the subject of helicopter "names" was a natural process knowing that it was all to vanish if it wasn't documented now. Having the VN War veteran as the primary contributor to this first book, I subsequently parlayed 600 color images from my burgeoning photo files into two additional copter books titled, "Vietnam War Helicopter Art", Vols 1 & 2. Presently working on Vol 2 of the Names book and Vol 3 of the Helicopter Art series.

Having served in Vietnam I saw, first hand, the helicopter art work Mr. Brennan has so painstakingly brought back from extinction. This book is a time capsule for those of us who were there, and a history lesson for those who want to understand what life in Vietnam was like for the American soldier. Additionally, Mr. Brennan has honored me by presenting one of my photographs in his book. I hope you'll support Mr. Brennan's efforts to preserve this unique, and very personal, aspect of the Vietnam War, by purchasing his book. You won't be disappointed. Dennis Bishop

Great book, excellent photos and side stories. Not only do you get the pictures, you get the guys who flew them, associated stories and more. Most of these photos have never been seen outside of private collections. A must have for any Vietnam collection.

Being a Viet nam Veteran, and a crewchief on a Huey, this book really meant a lot to me, I'd like to say:"Job well done and Welcome Home" and God bless us all.

I am truly amazed at this book John Brennan has compiled! The photographs are nothing less than perfect even though they are at least 40 years old! I was pleased to see that some photos from my time and my unit were included in the book. What struck me the most as I looked at the book was the enormity of the Vietnam war and the "like mindedness" of those who served. My view of my time and experience in the war was exposed to me as but a microcosm; that is to say I remember the trees but never really saw the forest until now. My compliments to John for a job well done!! F Troop (Air) 3/4 Cav.

If you have any interest in the U.S. role in Vietnam, particularly that of our fighting men, buy this book! These helicopter nose art photos reveal not only the fighting spirit of our men in Vietnam but also their longing for home. The photos are incredible and full of detail, virtually all are in color! The nose art ranges from crude to professional, yet each piece of art is interesting in its own right. Mr. Brennan has done an excellent job of preserving art and history!

Purchased 2 copies of this book. One for our veterans park where Cobra gunship helicopter #475 rests and another for a friend who carves helicopters from a block of wood. Nice clear crisp pictures, great text, and really liked the short clips for each picture. Glad to see someone found time to preserve this bit of history. Would like to see a follow up book. Al Wikoff

Mr. Brennan has saved a part of the RVN experience that would have been lost otherwise. I recommend this book to the flop wings and starch wings who served in RVN and remember the unforgettable sounds of the choppers. if they had a six star rating, I'd give it.

John Brennan has out done himself with his second book. He has spent years and countless hours on this project. He has assembled a priceless collection of excellant photos from Vietnam veterans. With out his efforts, this history would have been lost. The photos are very clear and crisp for being over 40 years old. The history of each helicopter is priceless. They show the pride the soldiers had in these flying machines and the care that they gave to maintain them. It has been an honor to me, as a cobra crew chief and Vietnam veteran, to have been a contributer to his great book. I highly recommend it to everyone. I am looking forward to his next book being published.
