From Library Journal
The "true legacy" of General William Westmoreland's libel suit against CBS for alleged untruths in the network's 1982 documentary "The Uncounted Enemy: a Vietnam Deception" is the historical light it cast on how and why the Vietnam War was fought. Brewin and Shaw, both journalists, provide an impartial and thorough account of this landmark case, by examining first the making of the documentary, then the history of the war, and finally the trial, which unlocked much that had been suppressed. The book is compelling reading. Morever, it does not materially duplicate Don Kowet's A Matter of Honor ( LJ 7/84), which takes the General's side, or Renata Adler's Reckless Disregard ( LJ 2/1/87), a broad indictment of both the American press and the legal system.
