Book Description

November 9, 2011
What happens when your client has been investigated on Dateline NBC for running "Bait & Switch" ads—and you're asked to write the next ad?

Should you attempt to go drink-for-drink with a 275 lb. prospective boss right after your job interview?

Why is so much advertising condescending and ineffective, but more pervasive than ever?

In this selection of columns that originally appeared on TalentZoo.com, copywriter Dan Goldgeier examines the ups, downs, and idiosyncrasies of the advertising industry. It's not "Mad Men," but it's madness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great insider's look at advertising, November 20, 2011
This review is from: View From The Cheap Seats: A broader look at advertising, marketing, branding, global politics, office politics, sexual politics, and getting drunk during a job interview (Paperback)
Ever wanted to know what it's really like to work in advertising? This book - a series of easy-to-read columns - gives the real story, from the perspective of a copywriter who is genuinely motivated to do best by his clients. Through the author's evocative and humorous writing style, you understand the highs and lows of working in a field that seems glamorous on the outside but at its heart involves all the craziness and politics of any other industry. Even if you know nothing about advertising, you'll enjoy this book. And if your entire knowledge of the industry is from "Mad Men", you'll see how the other side really lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars The insider's view of the advertising industry, January 31, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: View From The Cheap Seats: A broader look at advertising, marketing, branding, global politics, office politics, sexual politics, and getting drunk during a job interview (Paperback)
This a very well written book that is very much like having a conversation with the author about his experiences and his perspective on the advertising industry.
It is a very insightful, educational and entertaining read on the subject of advertising and advertising agencies, the culture, the awards, the copywriters, the account execs, the creative directors, the clients and the myriad of other characters in the industry.
The conversational tone and the chunck size chapters makes this book a perfect read on a kindle!
I will highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an insider's perspective on the advertising industry.
