Editorial Reviews

2012 release, the fifth album from the Alt-Rock band and their first album of new material since 2004. The View From The Bottom is Lit's first recording with Nathan Walker on drums, replacing the late Allen Shellenberger, who died from cancer in 2009, as well as their first with guitarist Ryan Gillmor, making it the first time the band has recorded as a five-piece under the name Lit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome Back June 21, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
It's been nearly 8 years since their last release, Lit's latest release THE VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM is surprising. After the death of drummer Allen Shellenberger, the band found itself in a place of transition. Switching management, record labels, and prodcuers, Lit took their time to work on this album before releasing it. THE VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM feels rejuvenated -- it feels like the members of the band have been reinvigorated. They have been out of the spotlight for a while, and this album welcomingly accepts that status. Instead of trying to rewrite "My Own Worst Enemy," the band pushed forward to new musical areas.

THE VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM is a straightforward rock album; it may be their heaviest to date. Many of the lyrics here deal with dead-end relationships, but there's also a hint of optimism in many of the tracks. The introduction sets the tone of the album with it's opening chant: "It's all about right here and right now." Lit doesn't revel in its past.

For new listeners, I would recommend starting with Lit's A PLACE IN THE SUN album. For pre-existing fans of Lit, THE VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM will be a welcome return for a band that has grown in many ways. Fans of Lostprophets, the Exies, or Eve 6 (or anyone who really misses mainstream rock from the late 90's) will find a lot here to like. Highlight tracks to sample: "C'Mon," "You Tonight," and "You Did It."

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Solid Album!! June 23, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Straight ahead hard rock with actual solos. Bands of today don't really do that like the bands of yesteryear. Lit is one band who does. They get how hard rock is to be written and played. They follow the classic verse/chorus, verse/chorus, bridge, solo, chorus-out formula. Nicely done. This album is great hook after great hook. Loved it at first listen. Support the bands that still release new music... buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid album, great to see Lit return June 23, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I started to write a review of this a few days before the album came out as I had gotten it early on a pre-order. Originally I had given it a 4 stars, but for some reason I didn't publish it and decided to listen to this album a few more times.

I'm glad I waited because this album is definitely 5 stars. At first I thought some of the songs sounded a little overproduced and too "poppy", straying from their alternative roots. I've been listening to this band since Tripping the Light Fantastic and am an old school punk rocker. Atomic is my favorite album from them, hands down, and I was hoping for something more along those lines, as I was a little disappointed with their last (self-titled) album. But I've had this CD glued in my car stereo for the last week and it has grown on me immensely. There are tracks that have that true anthemic Lit feel, and some slower songs that delve into the pain and tragedy the band has gone through over the last several years. Overall a great, solid album and fantastic return for these awesome rockers.

Lit fans won't be disappointed. Buy this CD now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply put....... INCREDISTONIMAZING! July 28, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Other reviews that i've read about THE VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM have said that it's a combination of past LIT albums. I can see that, but respectfully disagree, in my opinion THE VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM can easily be classified as a stand alone record. For fans of past LIT or new fans, this album has a little something for everyone that loves southern california, top down, stadium rock. Simply put....Abso LIT ley :) Incredible. Raise your glasses and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars They still got it! July 7, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I remember when I first heard 'My Own Worst Enemy.' Since then Lit was one of my favorite bands I listen to for at least the next 5 years. I shamefully let them go after 'Atomic' because they just didn't seem to have that egde they brought me origonally.

Ironically in the middle of this post grunge alternative revival Lit has given me probably one of the best albums I have heard this year. The sound is the best of what this band offers and there is not a single bad song on this record. Their musicianship still remains the same which is not bad, but vocally there is a tremendous improvement. I also really like the two balads that they put in here is almost comes off as an evolved 80s Hair Metal record and what could be wrong with that?

If you have never heard this band before this is a great album to start with. I hope that they keep on movie and continue to put out more music. If it keeps up sounding like this, it's a winner for sure.

This album is incredible. What a great return for LIT, I can't stop listening to the album, I love "The Broken" that song is such an anthem! Such a refreshing collection of music that will make anybody that is a 90's alternative/rock fan remember how awesome the music is. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Come Back Album December 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This band has been through so much through out the years, that I was rather surprised to find that they did another album. But let me tell you, this album is better than I could have ever imagined. So many great songs, I haven't been able to stop listening to it since I received it. Lit is a fun, great band, and I HIGHLY recommend this album for anyone.
