4.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Book of Mormon Studies, November 27, 2010
This review is from: View of the Hebrews 1825 (Paperback)
The reason to read this book (and the reason it is still in print) is not because it has anything informed to say about Native American origins or culture; it is fantastical fiction about Ancient Hebrews being the descendants of American Indians. Rather, it has long been charged that Joseph Smith used this book as his primary inspiration (if not outright plagiarized it) when translating the Book of Mormon just a few years later. Even the early LDS Church's own top apologist, B.H. Roberts, privately researched the parallels between the two works and concluded that the similarities suggested embarrassing problems. You can read B.H. Roberts own conclusions in "Studies of the Book of Mormon" which was originally intended for internal dissemination only but is now published and available on Amazon.

Good source, among others, to show Joseph Smith plagiarized & borrowed text, ideas, etc., from his surroundings to produce the Book of Mormon. Other View of the Hebrews info and publications can be found at UTLM * 0 r -g.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my Joseph Smith......., April 18, 2011
This review is from: View of the Hebrews 1825 (Paperback)
Well this kinda sounds familiar. Hmmmmm I read this book years ago and I can see why people can conclude that the Mormon prophet got his "inspiration". Add a vivid imagination, wrong geography, history etc...and you get the Book of Mormon.
