This is NOT the music from the movie...,

This review is from: A View From the Top (Audio CD)
When I go to a movie or see the previews for it, usually the music is a big part of what sells me on it. I have many cds from movies just for that reason, because they rock. And oftentimes, as with Moulin Rouge, William Shakespears Romeo And Juliet, The Wedding Singer, Boogie Nights and Romy and Michelles High School Reunion the music is so good we get two cds for our listening pleasure. Well, I am sad to say that they have made a grave mistake with the release of this cd. We can only hope that they smarten up and actually release another cd that includes the music that was actually included and used in the movie. Songs such as Cyndi Lauper's Time After TIme, Journey's Don't Stop Believing, The Jackson 5 and if I recall correctly they even used some Guns and Roses among some other dandies I can't recall at the moment. Even more blatent is the lack of the ending credit sequence, with cast singing. That, to me, would seem to be essential to the sountrack. The movie itself was pure pleasure. Predictable but a well spent 2 hours. When music can be included as such an integral part of the movie and make me want to go and buy that sountrack, I consider that an amazing movie going experience. Because I will remember the movie and will recommend it. Unfortunatly, with this movie-as with so many other movies today, they felt the need to throw us a soundtrack that has nothing to do really with the making and feel of the movie. If you want the real soundtrack you are going to have to do some compiling of your own to find the great songs featured in the movie and maybe revisit your days of the '80s and make yourself a "mix-tape".

Where's the Music?,

The best part of the film is when she is in Paris in the yellow jacket and "La Vie En Rose" is playing over her walking. Where is it on this CD?????

So much stuff missing...,

I watched the movie, and i thought, 'Man, what awesome classic songs... I gotta get the soundtrack. So much good stuff in one place.' Took one look at the song list, and NOTHING looks familiar. I was expecting something like the Wedding Singer soundtracks with all those awesome classics, but this is all unfamiliar territory. I think I'll opt out of this one.

What I was Expecting...,

If you watch the extras on the DVD, they actually talk about the music in the movie. In fact, they mention that the soundtrack contains new songs by female artists and they show some of the songs and artists who sing them. I went searching for this CD *because* I liked the artists on it, not for what I heard in the movie. If you want '80s hits there are literally hundreds of CDs out there already that contain and rehash those tunes many times over. (I happen to own a good number of these CDs myself.) I have both Wedding Singer soundtracks and frankly my favorite songs from them are Adam Sandler's and not the vintage ones. These songs on the "View from the Top" CD were in the movie; they just didn't stand out as much as those that most of us would recognize from our youth. I think this soundtrack delivers what it and the DVD promises - new songs by current and upcoming artists. Legally Blonde's soundtrack (which I also own) has the same format. However, I do agree that they should have included "We Are Royalty" - it was the best song in the movie! What a shame it was left off.

The only item on this disc really worth listening to is a great update of "Sincerely" by G. G. (?) Who pray tell is that? Are those a person's initials or does it stand for a group? Does she or do they have any more tracks available? Maybe I just don't listen to enough contemporary Pop but I'd like to hear more of "G.G."!

A futile attempt to reignite feminism. Note the Lileth Fair-esque listing of tracks. Likely the reason Journey and others were left off. Rent the movie, skip the soundtrack.
