Review

A MUST READ for budding work-at-home entrepreneurs. Well worth the cost in the first chapter alone! -- Amy Stavis, Publisher/Editor of Tableware Today

Do not be fooled. This one should be read, and reread, both for a home-based business or telework arrangement. -- Training Magazine, July, 2001

Szerman's straightforward approach will make you think seriously and help you plan for success before making the leap. -- Michele Marrinan, Former Editor of Home Worker Magazine

About the Author

When Millie Szerman appeared on the front cover of Money Magazine wearing nothing but a bubble bath, a red telephone and a smile, the business world sat up and took notice. Szerman, who has been running her public relations and marketing consulting firm, New Directions, from her home for more than a decade, was enthusiastically celebrated in that issue as one of the most successful home-based businesses in the country. The article demonstrated how having the freedom to take a business call in the tub is (or can be) a reality for scores of home workers.

Since that time, Szerman has been inundated with inquiries -from telephone calls, Internet e-mails, and letters. She has appeared on numerous television talk shows, conducted hundreds of radio, magazine and newspaper interviews, including the Wall Street Journal, Home Office Computing, Good Morning, Utah, Fox Live (Chicago), Good Day, Atlanta, and Woman to Woman (Los Angeles).

Szerman's work and personal experience has led her to where she is today: a highly successful entrepreneur who has the knowledge and expertise to lead others down their own road of success!

Whether you have a new home-based business or an established one, this well-written book will give you solid information from whether or not you have the correct personality to run a home-based business through how to deal with your business' success and how to handle it, and everything in between. Ms. Szerman offers concrete and useable advice for those who want to own their own home-based business. I recommend this book very highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addressing the How-Tos and What-Ifs, December 26, 2002
This review is from: A View from the Tub: An Inspiring and Practical Guide to Working from Home (Paperback)
...

As a writer working from home, I found Millie Szerman's guide book on how to work out of one's home full of how-tos and what-ifs that gave even an old hack like me a few new ideas about how to organize, how to maintain my sanity.

A View from the Tub would be equally useful for someone who is considering starting a home-based business.

I appreciated the chapter on "how to tune up your one-man band." The poet in me loved the "eating an elephant" metaphor as a way to multitask. The way the author addresses "the loneliness factor" was especially useful for someone who had convinced herself that she loves working without a soul in the room.

What it all adds up to is that this author/publicist has not just researched the subject but has lived it.

A View From the Tub includes a checklist, case studies, a resource section, a place to take notes and quotes from the likes of Ben Franklin and Ann Landers. It is a great book for "home study"-sorry I just couldn't resist the pun.

Carolyn Howard-Johnson, Author of "This is the Place"
