I've been using a 17" monitor for a couple of years now and decided to upgrade to a 19". The most important factors for me were the picture quality and high resolution at decent refresh rates. This monitor has both, and I am very pleased with it. The display at 1600x1200 is quite good, refreshes at 77hz. The flicker is a bit noticeable, but that is to be expected at 77hz. It is still quite useable and does not appear bothersome to me. The resolution that I use, 1240x1024 is sharp, clear, and flicker free. The on screen text is extremely sharp and colors are bright. I would highly recommend this monitor if you're looking for a good quality 19" monitor at a great price.

I've had this monitor for about a year now and so far it has been operating reliably. At first, you'll have to do some tweaking to get it set up just the way you like it. I set the resolution to 1024X768 and the refresh rate to 100 Hz, which to my eyes makes it totally flicker-free with sharp graphics and fonts just big enough to make text reading easy.

This monitor has very good brightness and contrast. The colors are solid and vivid. It measures approximately 18" deep and the front glass is flat and exactly 18" diagonal. The screen behind the front glass may be curved (like others have noted), but they use some kind of optical trickery to make the net image seem flat. For the most part, it works, but it's NOT perfect. If you want/need a true flat monitor, perhaps an LCD is best for you. However, if price is a consideration, then you may want to try this value packed item. I have no regrets.

I'm a graphic artist who uses 2 of these monitors side-by-side, day-in and day-out, 8+ hours a day 5 days a week. I haven't had a single issue with them since I got them new over a year ago.

Both are set at 1280x1024x32 on a 128MB Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 on Windows XP Pro. I have my taskbar along the left side of my left monitor. They are heavy-ish like any CRT monitor but aren't as deep as some 19" monitors. If you took a 19x19x19 inch cube, thats the space you'd need for this monitor.

A little education for you:
1. Like all consumer electronic equipment, performance will vary based on your environment. I have 2 identical models that were purchased at the same time, and even then I must use professional color calibration hardware and software to get accurate. By default they don't match. That's normal.
2. "Viewable" area IS 18" (diagonal) but that does NOT mean your desktop will fill that whole area unless you adjust the monitor to do so. I've never liked the marketing spin that allows 18" viewable to be called 19" monitors due to some technicality. Like 0-60 times on automobiles, it may be fact though it may not equal real world practicality. LCDs win it that respect; 19" on the box equals 19" viewable.

At work, color reproduction is more important than monitor size. So since good CRT monitors are more color true (very important for designing print projects) than LCD monitors, these monitors fit the bill. (I do use a single 19" LCD at home.)

While, as other people have noted, this is not truly a "flat" screen monitor, in the most rigid sense of the word, it is indeed an excellent monitor that I am most pleased with. The refresh rate offered at the resolution of 1600 x 1200 appears to not flicker at all, and the color I see while playing video games (Battlefield: Vietnam; Farcry) is absolutely astonishing.

The only disappointment to this monitor, as I'm sure you've read already, is the fact that it is not as flat as an LCD screen. Don't let that discourage you from purchasing this, though, as it is an incredible monitor. I have not seen better color and performance from any other monitor in the nearby price range. Let me also assuage your worries by explaining that this is indeed a 19" monitor, with what appears to be exactly 18" of viewable screen.

I do not regret my purchase at all, and don't expect to upgrade my monitor for a long period of time.

I just bought this monitor last week and it's incredible. It did, however, take a lot of time tweeking it, but it was worth it. Crisp clear text, great color, and great refresh rates make it well worth the money. I ordered it from Dell.com, paid a little more then here, but I got free shipping so it ended up being cheaper. And, Dell had it on my doorstep in less then 24 hours! Can't beat that! I knew nothing about monitors when I first started to look, and I read everything I could. I concluded that this, for the price, was the best out there. Much better then the old one I had. If you're a gamer (like me) this is the monitor to get.

I can safely give this monitor 5 stars because of its price and clarity of the picture it produces. The main thing that brought me to buying this monitor was the "Perfect Flat" in it's title. A flat screen is definitely important to me. But, there is still a curve to the actual display, albeit slight, but it's not what i was expecting. And there is deceptive layer of glass in front of the screen that actually IS flat. So when your monitor is off, you'll think it will display perfectly flat but it's not.

That being said, this is still an excellent monitor that i wish was "Perfectly Flat" - oh well atleast my TV is "Perfectly Flat!"

This moniter is incredable. Huge spread in resolutions, can go all the way up to the incredible resolution of 2048X1536! Thats the equivelant of a photo from a 3.1 megapixel camera. Of course it only supports 60 herts refresh rate at that resolution, making it mostly uselss, but its still great to view photos from my digital camera on it. It will also disply 32 bit color on all resolutions, and at 1600X1200 its suppports 75 htz which looks great. All in all I am very impressed with the specs especially for the $$$$ I bought it at.

This monitor was not as bright as the Sony I had before but Sony no longer makes a CRT monitor. I have an LCD monitor and when you compare the LCD monitor with this monitor the LCD is junk. This monitor has a good picture. The thing I didn't like about Viewsonic monitors is that is shows up in the Device Hardware and in the video properties as a plug and play monitor, instead of telling you the name of the monitor and the model number.

Purchased ViewSonic G90fb 19" CRT based on other reviews. Much to my surprise the unit I received does not perform as expected. Monitor brightness varies depending on the windows that are open on the screen - when there is a large white window open (i.e. My Computer) the screen darkens and shrinks about 1 mm on all sides. When the white window is resized or minimized, the whole screen visibly lightens and expands. I can accept the fact that maybe this unit is defective, but the ViewSonic customer support is virtually non-existent: after trying for one week I have no response to 5 separate emails, the telephone support is inevitably 'busy assisting other customers' and 'experiencing high volume'. Based on my personal experience, I would strongly advise anybody against doing business with ViewSonic.

This monitor is great for gaming. I bought a 24' lcd and played game on it. The lcd monitor is not for gaming, so i bought this crt monitor. i'm glad i did, because the graphic is awesome. handles game good.
