![]() | With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

4.0 out of 5 stars
Great for our kitchen,
By Morley Dotes "morleydotes" (Flushing, New York USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ViewSonic N2201w 22-Inch LCD TV with Built in DVD Player (Electronics)
Update: We ended up buying a Sony Bravia for the kitchen, and so this has gone into my sons room. The viewing angle became a bit of an issue, and the Sony does not have that issue. I would bring it down to 3.5 stars, but still, this is a great value. One thing I (we) did not consider is walking around the kitchen and doing things at different points, so this became a bit of a hassle. Please note that I did NOT return it, and that says a lot. So, if you only had the money for one, and you did NOT need a dvd player, I would go with the Sony. If you need a dvd player, this gets the nod. I bought this because my wife wanted a small TV for our kitchen and my friend had one and it looked pretty good. Well, it looks just as good in our kitchen. The picture quality is excellent, even standard definition looks good. The sound is exactly what I thought it would be for this TV and price point...meaning, it didn't knock my socks off, but it was more than adequate for where it is. The only thing that I do not like is the viewing angle is not that great. So, keep in mind where your viewing area is going to be, and as long as you can rotate the TV you won't have any problem. Our kitchen gets a lot of sun, and we haven't had any problems viewing.....the only issue is the viewing angle. At this price, I would have taken off only half a star, but that is not possible. The stand is very nice and stable, so I do not have any worries of knocking it over. Samsung makes a nicer TV, but it is more expensive and does not have a built-in DVD player, so the combination makes this a no brainer for me. Lastly, at this size screen, I doubt anyone could tell the difference between 780p and 1080p so there is no reason to spend the money on a more expensive 1080p (that doesn't apply here, but I was also looking at larger sets, and you really need to get to 40inch in order to start noticing a difference....and if you are more than 10 feet away, I would say even a 40inch 780p would be more than acceptable, so I only mention this as an FYI).

Very pleased so far with this TV. Delivers a good quality HD picture. The built in DVD player also does a good job. It will play PAL(region 0) DVD's as well as NTSC. The Audio is very clear of any distortion and the volume is more than adequate for a TV of this size. Obviously, this set is best suited for a bedroom or Kitchen, not a huge room.
Somewhat to my suprise I was able to program my Dish DVR remote to work with the N2201w. The correct TV code is 834. This will let you control the TV POWER, VOLUME, and MUTE. The SD picture is adequate, but not great. The default video settings required some tweaking to obtain an optimal picture. I am satisfied so far with my purchase, but I have only had the set for a week. The verdict is still out on the long term reliability of this set.

Great Price...Great Picture...Ease of use and it can connect to your computer and it plays both DVD's and Cd's. Sound could be a little better but if you adjust the settings to your viewing or listening environment you can tweak it a little bit but this TV could use better speakers. Overall, this is a nice TV for those who have limited space.
