5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome image
Wow! The text is bright and sharp at least up to 1600*1200 @85Hz! I haven't really evaluated the higher ones because the text is too small, but it does 2048*1536!!. I can't complain about the brightness either, there's an ultrabrite mode that makes movies look awesome. Back when I bought my 17" monitor that did 1280*1024@60Hz, I thought I had the best. Reviews of this monitor are all over the map. Some rave about it, some are disapointed. I, unfortunately, am in the second camp. This is my third Viewsonic monitor and all before the P95f+b have been execellent monitors. This monitor, on the other hand, falls far short of its advertised capabilities. Sure, the monitor will scan at 1280x1024@100Hz but the smudgey text it...

This monitor will outdo that by a long shot. It's size and power consumption are about what my 17" was.

Be warned that turning on ultrabrite can make the text appear blurry. I think that's what the negative amateur reviews knock. That mode is for games and movies...with text use the standard mode. Don't worry, it's still plenty bright. It's been rated among the best by the major reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just set it up, October 11, 2002

Delivered today. Took about 5 minutes to put it together, but the base doesn't seem to snap into place as it appears it should, the tabs on the base just set into the slots on the bottom of the monitor. Stable enough, though I might look into the possibility that I need a different base.

Great picture. I've seem a couple of reviews on other sites that knock the image....I don't get their complaints. I work with computers all day, and this is easily one of the best images out there for a comparable price.

Exactly what I paid for. Reasonable size....great image. I almost went overboard and bought a HUGE CRT.....am glad I came to my senses......now we can afford to put together another new system.

Reviews of this monitor are all over the map. Some rave about it, some are disapointed. I, unfortunately, am in the second camp. Sure, the monitor will scan at 1280x1024@100Hz but the smudgey text it produces at this rate is worthless to look at it. In fact, I have to back the refresh rate all the way down to 75Hz to get a decent picture without too many blurry spots, but there are some slightly blurry areas. At 75Hz its a decent monitor, but I *paid* for a monitor that could do 1600x1200@85Hz or more. And dont get me started about the quality of the 1600x1200 mode that is supposedly the optimum resolution mode for this monitor. What a joke!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great clarity, easy controls and of course big., July 19, 2003

This is everything I expected. Viewsonic is awsome. I have a Sony Trinitron at work...abt the same size and this is better. Although I'll admit the Sony is a yr older. I love the quick button on the front for brightness. Great for switching btwn docs/surfing and games/movies. I don't use my tv anymore bcs this screen is bigger and you get the full effect of the dvds. The price is good too for this size monitor. I haven't sacrificed quality at all. I highly recomend it.

I run it at 1600 x 1200 @ 85hz. It is very bright and has a superbright mode for dark games and movies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but very good for the price, April 23, 2004

When I started looking for a new monitor my only requirement was that it should be capable of UXGA resolution (1600 x 1200) with a stable refresh rate. Unfortunately there aren't many monitors that fall into this category. It was either a $1200 lcd that wouldn't have accurate color reproduction and I would have to worry about scratching, dead pixels, etc... or this $300 monitor that would have great color and no worries about sturdiness. So I went ahead and bought it. I must admit I was a little disappointed at first. BUT I figured out that the distortion was caused by my graphics card, not the monitor. The RAMDAC in my card was pretty much maxed out at this resolution, so there were some small imperfections. I hooked it up to another card and those imperfections were gone. Still, the horizontal grill pitch of this monitor really ends up showing almost two pixels in each slit at UXGA, but the text is still very readable and it's great for graphics. So in reality it's more of an awesome SXGA monitor that's capable of displaying UXGA. For $300 I couldn't ask for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best monitor I have ever had, November 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: ViewSonic P95F+B PerfectFlat 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Personal Computers)
I sit at a computer 10+ hours per day, and I never tire of reading text on this monitor. Moreover, the graphics are superb, and I work with programs such as Flash, Fireworks, and Photoshop. Plus, I play video games! I love this monitor - it performs as advertised - and if it blew up, I'd buy another. Whenever I work from a different CRT monitor, I am usually disappointed.

By the way, I paid $549.00 (nearly half of the current price). Some LCDs are not even this nice. If you can spend $700 on a high-quality LCD, go ahead; however, if you only are in the market for a CRT monitor, the P95f is one of the most satisfying monitors you can buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vertical distortion ruins this monitor, October 6, 2003

This is the first and last Viewsonic monitor that I will purchase. This monitor was replacing a 19" Sony that worked fantastic (before being destroyed in my house fire). The Viewsonic P95f+ suffers from major and unadjustable vertical distortion making it worthless for any real graphic work. Even for general text the distortion is annoying. I've tried three graphics cards with the same result. I'm returning this one as defective to the place I purchased it and buying another Sony.

1.0 out of 5 stars ViewSonic 19" P95F+B - Poor Quality, November 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: ViewSonic P95F+B PerfectFlat 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Personal Computers)
Monitor quality was poor at all color levels and resolution.
1) Text appeared smudged around the edges of the screen.
2) Unable to "square" up monitor around the edges. Bottom portion of the screen had a large slant that the monitor adjustment options couldn't correct.
