Always a viewing pleasure.,
By William Harrison (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ViewSonic PF790 Perfectly Flat 19" CRT Monitor (Electronics)
I have always been impressed with Viewsonic monitors because of the quality and secondly the price. This product is no different; the crisp, clear colors on this 19" are great for gaming and other graphics intensive programs because of the 0.25 dot pitch and high refresh rates. I also do a lot of CAD, and the clarity of the PF790 comes to my eyes' rescue. Note that this is a professional monitor and though the price seems high for some other 19" monitors, it is really not for the features you get. When comparing other flat screen monitors with similar features, none had a comparable price for the same specs. PerfectFlat technology is great for that flat screen view in order to eliminate glare and image distortion. Viewsonic support also gets a high rating from me. I am completely satisfied and will spend hours staring at my new purchase with pleasure.

HUGE MONITOR WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS,
By Beth J. Fitch (Peoria, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ViewSonic PF790 Perfectly Flat 19" CRT Monitor (Electronics)
This monitor delivers a HUGE viewable area, great clarity, and ease of use. What it says is accurate, 18 in. viewable area, precise colors, and lots of pixels! It has a nice, easy to use menu and good instructions. You don't have to have much computer knowledge to get this working quickly. It has a very fast refresh rate so it is as easy to look at as a laptop's screen. The fact that it is flat means that it doesn't bulge in the middle. This allows for much easier viewing. The only MINOR setbacks are 1. It is enormous. It weighs 55lbs. and takes up a huge amount of desk space. Read the dimensions carefully. 2. There are 2 lines going thru the screen. They can only be seen when the page is absolutely pale white. These do not affect programs. They're hardly noticeable. There isn't much more to say about it because it does it's job flawlessly, and doesn't have any problems with it. The way I look at it, $... is a small price to pay for this much quality in a monitor. This is definitely worth looking into. (no pun intended)

Great picture for a CRT, lots of controls.,
By Matt C (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ViewSonic PF790 Perfectly Flat 19" CRT Monitor (Electronics)
My roommate just got this monitor a couple days ago. I have to say that it has a really impressive display; not quite as good as a new desktop LCD panel, but much better than monitors only a couple years old. I have an older Nanao 17" professional monitor, and I feel like I need to get my glasses checked when I come back to this from the ViewSonic. One of the great things about this monitor is that it has fantastic geometry controls. These controls allow you to correct geometry problems that are only found on very old monitors; this means that you should be able to keep the display sharp and square for years to come (ever heard of "Cupid's Bow Control"?). It might sound obvious, but this monitor is BIG. As compared to one of the "short-depth" 17-inch monitors, this baby really takes over the desk. If you have a small desk, you may want to consider an LCD panel instead. All in all, this is a great value for a large, excellent CRT display. This very well may be the last CRT that you ever buy.

Professional Grade,
This review is from: ViewSonic PF790 Perfectly Flat 19" CRT Monitor (Electronics)
As a web designer, I rely on vivid images and clarity with a monitor. The ViewSonic PF790 (Professional Series) has been a workhorse for me both at work and at home. My monitor at work is a '99 model and I have yet to experience any problems with it. I appreciate the flatness of the screen and coating used as I never experience glares. I cannot use glare guards due to the nature of my work nor is it necessary. The one I have at home is a 2002 model and I've noticed a few changes with more ways to tweak the viewable screen with more functionality. I selected it over the Sony after viewing various monitors at a local shop. I see no reason to purchase a Sony when the ViewSonic gives me the same quality for a lower price. The only thing I don't like about the 'trinitron' technology is that you'll notice two very thin lines near the top quarter and another on the bottom quarter of the screen horizontally. From what I've been told, they are fine wires that ensures the virtual flatness or something to the effect. After seeing it on all virtually flat screens of other monitors, I knew it was the technology, not the manufacturer. However, the annoyance is a minor detail that most users might not likely ever notice. I recommend this product and particular model if you want a nice quality flat monitor in the 19" range. I've not been sorry thus far!

I say that because I've owned a ViewSonic monitor before, and they're just great. I bought this specific model because ViewSonic has always been well know for putting out top-quality monitors with affordable prices. I bought the PF790 six months ago and I haven't had a single problem since.CAD and 3D designers on a budget, like myself, should look to this model. This 19" monitor is great on the eyes for it's non-reflective/non-glare and the screen is perfectly flat. The colors are vivid, and there's a number of controls to adjust is viewability. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is that it weighs about 55lbs. and takes up a good amount of deskspace. I feel bad for the negative reviewers, experience with faulty equipment can sour one's perception of a credible manufacturer. All I can say is do some heavy research and make sure that whatever devices you plan to hook up your computer are compatible with one another.

Do not buy a ViewSonic!,

My ViewSonic PF790 quit working entirely when it was 7 months old -- my only option for repairing it was to return it directly to ViewSonic in California. First there was the $80 shipping cost (the monitor weighs 55 pounds!), and then I heard nothing for weeks. I contacted their customer service department, who told me that they had not received the monitor, even though I had proof of delivery from UPS -- two weeks before! They then made excuses about being out-of-stock on replacement monitors amd promised to send one as soon as they could. Several more weeks went by, and after three more phone calls to their customer service department, they finally shipped me a "new" monitor. It turns out that the "new" monitor they shipped me was a reconditioned used monitor which has some big problems with the picture tube. They told me I could return that one for another one (at my expense for the shipping, of course), but I decided to forget it. So I'm spreading the word -- Viewsonic [is terrible] and their monitors aren't any better! DO NOT BUY ViewSonic. That's my advice.

This monitor is great!,

I have never used such an excellent monitor for such a great price. I actually own three of these, because the display's colors are excellent, and when the light is on it, there is no glare! No glare, folks. It is a flat screen with no glare, so if sun is on it, you will still be able to see your monitor and will still be able to work on your computer. It's funny that the only bad reviews for this monitor come from three people that recommend Sony over Viewsonic for some reason. Hehehehe crazy people. ViewSonic is THEE company for monitors. I hope Viewsonic never discontinues this monitor, as I think it is their best one, for the price.

I am still using a PF790....,

Just thought I'd see if anyone else has let technology pass them by. My primary monitor is still a PF790.
I bought an LED monitor, also a ViewSonic, mainly to reclaim desk realestate (did anyone mention that these are huge?). The VX910 looked so lonely taking up the space vacated. It was a good monitor, but had problems matching what I had grown to take for granted in the PF790. Less than a year later, it started acting weird, finally after 2 years - it gave up. I replaced the VX910 with the PF790 and never looked back. This monitor has been in use since 1995 - 96! and still has never failed to provide a superior display. My old company bit the dust a few years back - they had a new PF790 which had never come out of the box. I bought it - so I have a spare. I think I'm set for Life!

Nice monitor but I'd never buy ViewSonic again,
This review is from: ViewSonic PF790 Perfectly Flat 19" CRT Monitor (Electronics)
My ViewSonic monitor was excellent for nearly a year - a nice crisp bright picture. Then the screen started jumping in and out. They shipped me a replacement within 24 hours and I was impressed - until I opened the box. The unit had clearly been dropped on to a hard surface. The case was cracked and it blew up when I applied the power. Note that this hadn't happened in transit because the packing was still in perfect condition. So someone at ViewSonic had deliberately sent be a badly damaged monitor.
I got another replacement 4 days later. No damage this time, but it didn't work either. I'm waiting for the phone lines to open to request another. Now what sort of company sends out replacement units that are clearly dead? One that doesn't care much about its customers for sure. Even if I do eventually get a replacement that works, I won't be buying from ViewSonic ever again.

Own it, support them.,

We support Viewsonics, Hitachi's, and Compaq's. The Viewsonics are the only ones we have never had a problem with. I personally own this specific model. It has one of the finest images I have seen on a Flat Screen (doesn't require adjusting the angles.) The image is crystal clear, although this model is a bit older and there are now much better viewsonics out there. I would purchase Viewsonic or Sony. They both make great imaging products. I think the people that were having problems with this had all bad video cards. I have run Banshee's, G450's, and Radeon's on this monitor. None of them have had an issue.
