Viewsonic PPC After one year,
By
This review is from: ViewSonic V37 Pocket PC (Office Product)
I've owned two IPAQs, and several PALMs. This is the best little gadget I ever had. The screen is so bright that even battery-saving settings are clear. Battery life is good, almost 4 hours continuous. Having a Flash Memory and an SD card I record music, books and games. You can listen to headphones and read a book at the same time for hours!

Very nice PocketPC,
This review is from: ViewSonic V37 Pocket PC (Office Product)
This is the first PocketPC that I've had so I cannot compare it to others. However, I'm very pleased with it. It's light and fits in my hands very well. The stylus is sturdy and comfortable to work with. The touch screen works very well. The display is clear and very bright even with the backlight at half power. The performance is quick and responsive.

DON'T BUY VIEWSONIC V37,

If you buy this pda and your battery stops charging you'll lose it. THERE IS NO WHERE ON THIS PLANET (I mean it), NOT A SINGLE STORE where you can find the BP8BULXBIAP1 battery. Viewsonic DISCONTINUED the V37 and the manufacturer in Taiwan won't bother to reply. Once the battery dies, you'll lose your pda. I have one, unfortunately. Buy another brand, so when the battery dies you can just get a new one, like that on your fingers.

Great tool!,

I have had my V37 for almost two years now and I love it. I upgraded from V35 which I also liked. I find the display bright and easy to read; performance is great (< 2 seconds from power off to access to calendar etc), battery life is acceptable and functionality is great! I use all the PM features constantly. I use it to transfer files around, I listen to music, read books, get news, sports and weather. I have purchased several after-market applications that enhance some of the features but even off-the-shelf I loved it. I highly recommend it. I wish Viewsonic would keep the line going. I would buy their next one right away.

Viewsonic - battery not that bad, very good PDA vs iPaqs,

Regarding the previous review concerning battery anomalies - they can be fixed. However, all PDA's have problems with dumping memory when the battery runs out. You will learn how long your PDA lasts given your personal use, and how often you must overnight-charge it (or use a travel charger).I've had many Pocket PC's - this is the fastest, lightest, easiest to use that I have tried. Much better than many of the iPaqs. More info at the Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ViewSonic/

I've had two ViewSonic pocket PCs and have never had one problem with either of them. I'm not a techy person -- just use them for contacts and calendar mainly -- but they've both worked perfectly since Day 1. The screen is bright and clear, they sync up easily and quickly, and all Microsoft functions have worked well. If you just plan to use the basics, I would highly recommend this PDA. In fact, I'm buying a third one today for another employee in my company and feel confident that it will work as well as the others have.

Do NOT buy this product,

I purchased the product because it offered Microsoft .Net compatibility. The product locks up regularly for no apparent reason. When it locks up the only option is to reset, clearing all data and software installs. If you purchase the product get very familiar with Backup and Restore procedures. I am currently restoring the system once per week.

Nice PDA if you find a used one at a decent price,

I received a V37 as a promotional deal that packaged it with a new MSDN Universal subscription (Microsoft's Software Developer tools). It was better than my Palm m505 at the time so I used the V37. I had no complaints for the few years that I used it until recently when I could no longer sync (transfer data between the V37 and my computer). I believe it's a hardware problem with the port on the V37 itself to which the USB cable connects. I don't think it's worth fixing and I can't sell it like that so I recently purchased a new PDA (another brand). Pay attention to the other review for the V37 that points out you can no longer upgrade the OS from Pocket PC 2002 to Pocket PC 2003. I missed out during the short window of time that was available from Viewsonic--and it's true, it's no longer available. If you're thinking of buying a V37, don't get a new one as there are other PDAs on the market now that are better and in the same price range. But if you are considering a used one at a decent price (say under $200), it's a nice PDA. Bright screen, color of course, enough memory for all but the extreme PDA addict. I wish it had a louder meeting reminder sound. I would give this a higher rating if it we were still in the year 2002 (maybe a 3 or 4 out of 5). But by today's standards, it's on the verge of being "like...so 5 minutes ago!"
