I did not realize it was a TV performing as a monitor.

Terrible resolution - regardless of settings on the computers (laptop with native 1920 x 1080 HDMI, desktop also with HDMI) or on the monitor's settings.

Vivid colors, sharp imaging...working on Illustrator the details are a bit more precise!

Update: Found a setting that makes the fonts tolerable so I moved it from one star to three stars.

Short version:

I sent this monitor back and bought a ViewSonic 27" monitor. The 27" monitor is MUCH better and has clearer fonts at close to 80 pixels per inch. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008A3KFB8/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00

1. You can only get about 60 pixels per inch at 1600x1200 so the fonts are going to look grainy. Most monitors give you closer to 100 pixels per inch (even at lower resolution settings) which is very sharp. That's why pro monitors are 2560x1600 resolution and cost in the $1000 range.
2. With the picture set to "Full 100%" instead of the default setting of "Normal" and using a DVI cable the fonts are not terrible anymore. They are NOT good but they are borderline tolerable. I can see pixels and there are a LOT of shadows (light/dark transitions) on every letter. Nothing made the fonts look better when I used a HDMI cable.

This monitor is going back to Amazon.

Long unedited version:

I was looking forward to replacing two 22" monitors with this one. However, when I plugged it in and set the resolution to the recommended setting (1920x1080) fonts look terrible. Its so bad that its hard to read some words. I expected that it might not be as sharp as the smaller monitors running at 1600x1200 but I didn't expect it to be almost unusable. I tried every resolution setting available and some looked less pixelated but they were very fuzzy. I'm using the digital video output from a dedicated graphics card. The fonts on my other two monitors look super sharp and pixels are not even noticeable.

At first, I thought this must be too good to be true - a 32" PC Monitor for $400. I did some research then got my expectations in line -- the pixels per inch would be significantly lower than my standard PC monitors (Dell and HP), Text would be slightly pixelated, etc. In any case, I placed the order. The product arrived three days later. Within a about 40 minutes, I had the monitor hooked up to my HDMI video output from my PC. It took a little extra time since (a) I am slow and (b) I had to fiddle with the buttons on the monitor -- cycling through the Input button settings to pick the correct video input, otherwise, the "No Signal" image appears on screen. I set this to be my second monitor, replacing an older 24" variety. Set the resolution to 1920 by 1080 (maximum). Wow. The colors and details are excellent. This works great for displaying photos and movies (of course), but it is also highly acceptable as a secondary PC monitor. I am typing in my Amazon review presently from the new Big Screen. To tell the truth, although the text is pixelated, I can read everything quite easily. This is an outstanding monitor for the price. I may do a little further research to see if the DVI or other video formats are superior to the HDMI - but for the present, I am a very happy customer.

After reading the very excellent and detailed review at Amazon, I still bought this monitor even though there were some significant concerns expressed. I did not realize it was a TV performing as a monitor. I was thrilled to find a 32" monitor for that price, but as soon as I saw the remote control I thought they had sent me the wrong package. With that said, I hooked it up while leaving everything in tack so it would be easy to repack and return. When windows came on the screen, it was too big and went outside the monitor. I have a Nvidia GTX 560 and went into Nvidia's control panel and changed the PC resolution to the highest level available at 1680 X 1080, and that fixed the problem. I do two things a lot; games and Word. I started with games. First, I ran Dishonered. It was very dark but easily fixed. There is a balance. My previous 27" HP was better, but this was more immersive. I mean I almost giggled. I next ran FarCry 3, and then XCom. The experience was the same. I felt a little tinge of regret because of the image, and yet had a higher in-game experience. Maybe a lot higher. Next came Word. I instantly saw the font concern. I Increased the document to 125% and that seemed acceptable. Not good, but acceptable. The other thing that has to be appreciated is a bigger screen at a close distance is never good. Most people do not sit two feet from a 32" TV. However, you do with a PC. All of this review is with almost no tinkering. This is an out-of-the box review. I decided pretty quick to keep it. The worse I end up with is a very good TV. Even with the PC, the screen can be dramatic, frequently. Especially the beginning of games. Very disappointed that it does not have a tilt feature.Read more ›

I bought this monitor as the central/main monitor on my workstation (which sports six monitors). The max resolution is too low for up-close viewing like a computer monitor. At this scale, everything looks very pixelated and jagged. And I've got a fantastic video card, capable of much higher performance than this monitor. The other 22" monitors look fantastic. I'm keeping this one because it is so large that I can use it without wearing my glasses. But when I put my "eyes" on, it's really pretty horrible. I also don't like the fact that, unlike the other monitors, it doesn't know to power off when the computer hibernates or shuts down. You have to use the remote to power it off individually -- but better wait until the machine is down or it will think you disconnected the monitor and screw up your whole display scheme.

It would probably be okay for an across-the-room small TV/monitor, and seems best suited for an informational lobby monitor in a hotel or business. But for up close use, you need something more refined. And I'm not doing super high end graphics or anything. I'm using it for PowerPoint, email, spreadsheets and the like. I wish I had gotten a better monitor, even for those things.
