This ViewSonic 27" monitor is a wonderful addition to my digital darkroom. I had been running two monitors - one for the image and one for the Photoshop tools. Now with just the ViewSonic there is lots of space to work in and when enlarging an image to 100%, you can see every detail clearly. The colors are superb. The monitor installed without problem. Be sure to adjust the resolution to the full 1920 X 1080 native resolution of the monitor. I am using the DVI hookup. As the other reviewer mentioned, there are no unnecessary features and no speakers. All your investment is going into the incredible color and clarity of the display.

Viewsonic makes excellent monitors, and this one is no exception. The size is perhaps the best format I have ever used. The monitor is bright, clear, and has no dead pixels. I see no ghosting problem with the monitor even with 3ms. It does not have extra un-needed add ons such as USB hubs or speakers. Basically I am thrilled with the monitor, and highly recommend it.

Here are the settings I use that work perfectly for this LCD:

1. Use the DVI cable rather than VGA (which simply won't work for such a big screen).
2. Color adjust -> sRBG rather than other settings to get sharper text (1st button -> color adjust -> 4th button -> 2nd button a few times -> sRGB -> 4th button -> 1st button a few times).
3. If the text are too small for you, use 1440x900 instead (for PC: Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> 1440x900).

I tried VGA and it was too blurry to read the text. I also found the sRBG color adjustment gave me the sharpness I need for text. To get the best resolution use 1920x1080 if your driver supports it. But I am getting old with decayed vision, and 1440x900 is perfect for me.

With these settings, VA2770W is as sharp as all the smaller LCDs I used in the past, and provides extra space that makes reading text much easier!

When the first monitor came with a bright "always on" pixel my heart just sank because I was nearly sure that I'd be stuck keeping the bad monitor with the bad pixel (an "always on" pixel is very annoying). Much to my surprise ViewSonic has a 30 day zero dead pixel warranty. Amazon cross shipped a brand new monitor in just a few days.

Amazon has several ways to return ship. The method I used involved printing a label and dropping the defective monitor off at UPS. Amazon covered all shipping costs (inbound and outbound) and did not charge restocking. The experience was about as painless as could be expected.

I have been using this monitor for over a month now, and I think it was am intelligent decision to buy it.

I have very varied needs to a monitor these days. I dont usually watch TV, seeing everything from a DVD, streaming from internet or Blu ray. Given that I am as well a gamer, using my computer 75% for games, I was looking for a good sized monitor with a good resolution. My last monitor was a 22" AOC F22s, which is 1080p. When looking for options, people were adivising me for more "gamer" related brands. As it turns out, most of them are a bit more expensive. At the same time, given that movies from Bluray are 1080p, I decided to go for this resolution instead of a bigger resolution. All my games look great in this resolution anyway, and the compromise between games and movies was what draw me to this monitor.

So far I am happy with my decision. Excellent color overall. Many people have mentioned that "black" can be a problem with LCD monitors, and while it still is an issue in this one, it certainly is a lot better than my last monitor. I dont have a problem while watching DVDs, avi or mp4 files or video games. I have a coach next to my computer where I can lay down and rest and with just a slight adjustment in monitor direction, black is not a problem anymore.

Given that in general this is a basic monitor (no speaker or fancy options), the ability to connect it through DVI and VGA is excellent. Now I have my computer connnected through DVI and my Xbox connected through VGA, both with surround sound for both.

So, bottom line. for its size (27") and its overall performance, compared to the price you pay, I decided to give this item 5 stars. You can't wrong if you are looking for a monitor that fulfills basic needs.

I bought 2 of these monitors. I'm a software engineer, and the IDE's I use take up a ton of screen space. I have had ViewSonic monitors before, and always been happy with them. These are no different. They are HUGE and bright. Colors look great, and there is no lagging playing games or watching videos. I love them, and am SO happy I bought them. They don't have all the extra "frills" some do like the USB ports, or the horrible speakers some monitors come with which is fine by me! Just great huge monitors! Follow the other reviewers recommendations about the color settings, as they look kind of washed out with the default settings. I think it's sRGB, once on that they look wonderful!

UPDATE-3-7-11: This monitor simply did not cut it for me. The colors were inconsistent, the monitor dimmed then became lighter, colors looked too faded for my taste. I returned it today and will most likely get a 27 inch HP instead. I knocked off one additional star becuase of the return, and when it arrived, the box was damaged and was not factory sealed. The contents were intact but looked as if it may have been a return sold as a new unit. See below for my experience with this Viewsonic monitor:

In all fairness, it's entriely possible that my particular monitor may have been defective, as other reviews were excellent on this model.

I replaced my 24 inch "Glossy screen" Gateway HD monitor with this matte finish 27 inch Viewsonic. I run on the X58 platform, Intel i7 950, on a new EVGA 560 TI GPU. This is the first Viewsonic I have owned. I gave the Gateway to my son to use and it now sits attached to his computer just across the office from me.

I initially knocked off two stars on this because 1; The monitor lacks color depth and richness; 2; becuase the monitor's control buttons are poorly placed, menu navigation poorly designed and it lacks additional color features that should be included in any monitor by todays standards; 3; there is a noticeable "dimming" then brightening when you change programs. Also, I could not find any "reset" function.

At first I thought the Viewsonic VA2702vw was a nice monitor; but, and it may be just me, this monitor seems too color faded... the colors are not deep enough or rich enough for my taste. In all fairness to you, the readers, and Viewsonic, it very well could be that I am so used to the Gateway that I still need to give the Viewsonic a chance.
