1. Use the DVI cable rather than VGA (which simply won't work for such a big screen).
2. Color adjust -> sRBG rather than other settings to get sharper text (1st button -> color adjust -> 4th button -> 2nd button a few times -> sRGB -> 4th button -> 1st button a few times).
3. If the text are too small for you, use 1440x900 instead (for PC: Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> 1440x900).
I tried VGA and it was too blurry to read the text. I also found the sRBG color adjustment gave me the sharpness I need for text. To get the best resolution use 1920x1080 if your driver supports it. But I am getting old with decayed vision, and 1440x900 is perfect for me.
With these settings, VA2770W is as sharp as all the smaller LCDs I used in the past, and provides extra space that makes reading text much easier!
Amazon has several ways to return ship. The method I used involved printing a label and dropping the defective monitor off at UPS. Amazon covered all shipping costs (inbound and outbound) and did not charge restocking. The experience was about as painless as could be expected.
I have very varied needs to a monitor these days. I dont usually watch TV, seeing everything from a DVD, streaming from internet or Blu ray. Given that I am as well a gamer, using my computer 75% for games, I was looking for a good sized monitor with a good resolution. My last monitor was a 22" AOC F22s, which is 1080p. When looking for options, people were adivising me for more "gamer" related brands. As it turns out, most of them are a bit more expensive. At the same time, given that movies from Bluray are 1080p, I decided to go for this resolution instead of a bigger resolution. All my games look great in this resolution anyway, and the compromise between games and movies was what draw me to this monitor.
So far I am happy with my decision. Excellent color overall. Many people have mentioned that "black" can be a problem with LCD monitors, and while it still is an issue in this one, it certainly is a lot better than my last monitor. I dont have a problem while watching DVDs, avi or mp4 files or video games. I have a coach next to my computer where I can lay down and rest and with just a slight adjustment in monitor direction, black is not a problem anymore.
Given that in general this is a basic monitor (no speaker or fancy options), the ability to connect it through DVI and VGA is excellent. Now I have my computer connnected through DVI and my Xbox connected through VGA, both with surround sound for both.
So, bottom line. for its size (27") and its overall performance, compared to the price you pay, I decided to give this item 5 stars. You can't wrong if you are looking for a monitor that fulfills basic needs.Read more ›
In all fairness, it's entriely possible that my particular monitor may have been defective, as other reviews were excellent on this model.
I replaced my 24 inch "Glossy screen" Gateway HD monitor with this matte finish 27 inch Viewsonic. I run on the X58 platform, Intel i7 950, on a new EVGA 560 TI GPU. This is the first Viewsonic I have owned. I gave the Gateway to my son to use and it now sits attached to his computer just across the office from me.
I initially knocked off two stars on this because 1; The monitor lacks color depth and richness; 2; becuase the monitor's control buttons are poorly placed, menu navigation poorly designed and it lacks additional color features that should be included in any monitor by todays standards; 3; there is a noticeable "dimming" then brightening when you change programs. Also, I could not find any "reset" function.
At first I thought the Viewsonic VA2702vw was a nice monitor; but, and it may be just me, this monitor seems too color faded... the colors are not deep enough or rich enough for my taste. In all fairness to you, the readers, and Viewsonic, it very well could be that I am so used to the Gateway that I still need to give the Viewsonic a chance.Read more ›
