5.0 out of 5 stars Great viewing
Easy to set up and a good clean picture, bright colors, no distortion. I just wish there was greater availability of these standard size monitors as all of us consumers don't want or need widescreen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dead Pixel
Dead pixel smack dab in the middle of the screen. Hard to imagine how it got by quality control.

Will be returning this.

--Update--

Return with Amazon was easy as always. Second monitor shipped had no dead pixels and no issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best value in class, March 15, 2009
This review is from: ViewSonic VA926 19-inch LCD Monitor (Electronics)
Purchased this monitor from Amazon and have used it for about a year. I did my homework before purchasing this item and it has lived up to my expectations 100 percent.

Easy to use on screen adjustments for color, brightness, contrast, etc~ Crisp colors, sharp images and native max resolution of 1280x1024 make this monitor a winning proposition for users regardless of use; business graphics or gaming. Especially though, for gaming.

This is not a "wide screen" 19 inch monitor with a 16-9 aspect ratio- it is the full blown 19" version with a 4-3 aspect ratio. You get a great bonus in usable screen area that comes in handy on the desktop and allows for much better viewing in my opinion. Vertical refresh rates range from 60~75 Hertz. The preferred (default) resolution is 1280x1024 at 60 Hertz.

I rank it as the best value in it's class.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good piece of machinery..., June 17, 2009

Just bought one of these to replace an NEC that was slowly fading away. I agree with the observations of the other two reviews with respect to performance and value.

I'm also using it in a two-display setup, with a Mac, and it is better in some respects than the more expensive (but much older) 19" NEC monitors that I've been using. The "go to black" (a TV term) is much better than the NEC, as is the robustness of the colors, when compared with a television colorbar test pattern side by side. On the other hand, the evenness of the florescent backlighting is better on the NECs: on the Viewsonic it is brighter on the bottom, with a gradual transition to not-quite-as-bright on the top. Not a problem for me, but for color professionals, an issue.

The only negative that I can register is that (unlike the NECs) the stand does not allow the monitor to sit more than four inches or so above the desktop. The NECs have an extendable/adjustable stand which allows the monitor to sit some seven inches above the surface, which makes it much easier on the neck muscles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice real-19" monitor; a couple quibbles., February 8, 2010

The high ratings given by others seem accurate as to performance. I've had my VA926 for more than a month now and am very satisfied. The 5:4 aspect ratio and lack of speakers, suits my preference and available space, as I don't use a PC for movies. Two caveats for others: The instructions say nothing about adjusting the tilt, which was slightly frontward. The pivot bolt was so tight I feared breaking the plastic moldings if I tried to tilt the screen back; and there was no way to get at the nut with a wrench. Finally I phoned ViewSonic and a helpful tech said to just hold the screen at top and bottom and push the top back firmly. That worked. Second, The five buttons are silver color in the photo. In reality they are tiny black rectangles with microscopic legends molded in, against a black bezel --basically unreadable, and not single-function. To adjust brightness today, I had to put in the CD and find the pages in the User Guide pdf to explain the buttons. "Designers" who just mold important legends into black plastic are idiots, sadists or both: lawyers!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4:3 monitors are still out there for sale, June 7, 2010

I had a specific need for 19" monitor that was not wide screen. I needed one that was old school 4:3 ratio. The audio editing software that I use stacks multiple tracks vertically. The wide screens that are currently so popular ended up squeezing my vertical tracks so small that I couldn't see them like I needed to. This one solved my problem. It is a ViewSonic VA926. Great picture, good looking, and great warranty. Only complaint I have is that you have no way of lowering the monitor on it's stand. I knew that when I bought it, so I wasn't caught by surprise. The only surprise I had is that Amazon got it here so quickly with their free shipping offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars ViewSonic number 5, March 22, 2010

My first ViewSonic monitor was a 19" monster CRT that weighs about 50 pounds. One of my children has it and it still works fine after 10 years.

I now have 3 ViewSonic 19" LCD monitors and a 23" ViewSonic HD TV/Monitor and they all work great. Open the box, connect them, turn them on, and then enjoy. This latest one is even better than the others. The color just jumped out at me as soon as I turned it on.

As others have commented, the 1280 x 1024 (5:4) display ratio is the most efficient for graphic artists. With so few monitors available in this format it's fortunate that ViewSonic makes such great monitors.

I don't buy any other brand regardless of price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A five star value, December 6, 2009

For a number of years I have had a Viewsonic VP2130b and count my blessings every time I turn my number 1 computer on. Thus, it is no surprise that when I started researching monitors for my number 2 computer, I included the Viewsonic brand.

I went with the 19" VA926 for a number of reasons other than my satisfaction with the VP2130b.

One huge plus is the screen aspect. Far from being a widescreen.... it even exceeds the 4:3 ratio. The viewable screen measures 15" in width by 12" in height which works out to a 5 to 4 ratio. PLENTY of room in height to view web pages or documents without resorting to scrolling. With the 5:4 aspect you get very close to the same viewable height on this 19" monitor as with a standard 21".

The resolution is 1280 x 1024 so I can't expect to get the same detail as with the 1600 x 1200 of the VP2130b, but then consider that it's only about a third the money.

The image colors are strikingly vivid and bright compared to the considerably more expensive VP2130b, though not having the quite the resolution.

Lastly, it's really good looking and compact for a screen almost a 180 square inches in area.

I'm very pleased with the VA926 and would buy it all over again in a heart beat......

This is one fantastic monitor. I was looking for an excellent flat panel LCD monitor that is not in wide format, but I had almost given up when I saw a positive customer review about this monitor and discovered that there were still a few left. I like everything about this monitor. It has renewed my interest in photography. All those old photos from vacations in special places are now rolling across my monitor on screen saver, and do they ever look great. My old monitor made me feel like I was going blind; now I see everything clearly. I'm delighted with this monitor. ViewSonic VA926 19-inch LCD Monitor

One of the last 4:3 aspect ratio monitors that I could find on the market. I use a KVM for multiple computers and the 16:4 aspect ratio does not work well. My previous ViewSonic 19" LCD lasted 5 years of continuous use and I expect to get another 5 years out of this one. I have never been disappointed with any of the ViewSonic products and any problems were immediately handled by the company without issue.

The quality and resolution are excellent with the controls in the front where they are easy to reach. Just a solid 19" monitor.
