I just received this item. It looks very good, the price was great for the screen size and array of features and the picture displays are excellent. The set-up/operating instructions are minimal and more than a little confusing. The unit incorporates an option for calendar/time display along with a picture slideshow display on one screen. One major complaint is that the time display mode is in 24-hour format, rather than 12-hour (a.m./p.m.) format and this can not be changed. Most such digital products offer the option of selecting either display mode. Yet, the product literature (including online sales information, quick start guide and operating manual) show the device as displaying time in 12-hour format. Checking with Viewsonic customer service, I was told that 12-hour format is not available. How strange. If a calendar/clock function is important to you, be aware of this shortcoming.

Update - Additional comments regarding the display order of pictures on the frame. Other comments about this issue appear at the digital frame discussion community on Amazon. There seems to be no logic regarding the order in which pictures appear when running a slideshow on the frame. The instructions (such as they are) comment about "sorting" the pictures, but there is no relationship to the actual order in which they are displayed. No help exists at the Viewsonic web site either. This is an annoying shortcoming that should be easy to resolve.

Bought this for my wife for mother's day. It is the third digital picture frame we have owned.
The resolution is very good, and the size of the picture is nice, but the best thing about this is the ability to set it for random picture showings in the slideshow mode.
The other 2 we have always start at the beginning, so if you have new pictures on the memory card, you must watch the hundreds of old pictures first. That's not good. This frame can mix them up, or you can select 'new' photos first.
It is a great product and the price makes it a really super value.

I am using this Item for a week. here are some observation that I made:

- First of all screen is good and larger than I expected.
- Colors are good. I did not see any bad thing about screen.

- Program Menus are little confusing.
- The frame is more open color than shown in front-side pictures. Actual color is shown in backside picture and it has good looking in low lightened areas.
- If you want to open a picture trough USB or card reader. The card or the flash driver should be formatted FAT32 file format, NTFS does not supported


These are all I have for now. But I have couple hints for the buyers:
- Start to use your digital camera setting to capture wide angle (16:9)
- Resize and crop your photos to 1024x600 px for good looking. While resizing do not change its width to height ratio.

I have been using this digital frame (ViewSonic VFM1024W) for a month now and it's great. First, let me tell you that you CAN turn on and off the picture shuffling feature, and YES, you can play video. Note that this digital frame only plays certain video formats. Simply go online and research how to convert other formats you have to .mpeg and it'll play just fine. The best feature for me is the nice size and the high resolution. I have purchased a different digital frame with same screen size but lower resolution than the ViewSonic's. I ended up returning the other one as picture quality of this digital frame is second to none at 10". Plus, the price of this is so much affordable than other comparable ones. You'll love this!

Great product!! Love the interface, easy to use! Sturdy build, easily last a long time, pull out leg for table setting or holes for wall mounting. Nice LONG power cord! The PICTURE QUALITY is unmatched!! HOLY COW!! No joke!! If you get it for nothing else, get it for the quality!! View Sonic has done it again!! A bit pricey at $89, but quality is what you are getting!

I haven't had access to a photo frame for while so don't know if the features on this one are common. That being said, the combination of pictures, audio, and video make this frame a winner. It is a wide (1024 X 600) format so horizontal pictures can easily be made to fill the screen. The wood frame made the overall size too large and was easily removed. It's great to be able to plug into a PC via the supplied USB cable. I easily downloaded either to the internal memory or the SD card I added. But what's really nice is being able to see the picture on the frame then, using a graphics program, alter the size and reload the new version so it fills the screen properly. Also, the color controls really make the picture jump out of the frame. The only thing I don't like is the 24 hr clock in calender mode.

Ordered this as going away gift for daughter for college (to set up photos of home for her in her dorm room). Put photos and music on disk popped it in and there were no problems, and though the music sounds OK, the photos are phenomenal. Clarity, crisp, colorful and a great big bright screen!

I didn't get a chance to see video play on it, but she loves it especially the pause function to hold it on pictures of all of her friends on prom night!! It will download (to internal memory) and read from both my PC and her MAC by simply plugging in the USB cord

I recommend this as a high quality multifunctional digital picture frame that is worth the slight increase in costs from the 5 x7's. The price on Amazon couldn't be beat, I shopped around for two months and the price on Amazon was the best!

Here is how I fixed the slideshow display order of my Viewsonic VFM1024w-11 digital photo frame (it involves updating the firmware and setting the Slideshow Shuffle option to Off):
1. Downloaded the "VFM1024w-11_FW_7.28.01.zip" from the Viewsonic website (Support, Downloads, Drivers and Firmware, VFM1024w-11).
2. Ignored their instructions and extracted file upgrade.img from the downloaded zip file onto a flash drive
3. With the photo frame off, I inserted the flash drive into the photo frame's USB port and turned on the photo frame.
4. I exited the running slideshow
5. Selected USB from Card Selection
6. From the main menu (so to speak), navigated to the File icon.
7. Scrolled to the upgrade.img file.
8. Pressed Enter on the remote. This resulted in 3 successive messages: Upgrade check OK, Upgrade processing, Upgrade check error, the last one appearing midway on the progress bar
9. I then needed to unplug the power adapter (all buttons became disabled).
10. I plugged the power adapter back in and the photo frame booted normally.
11. Exited the initial sideshow.
12. Selected the Photo mode (camera icon). The 4x4 display of available photos appeared.
13. Pressed Setup on the remote to display the Settings icons.
14. On the remote pressed Enter for the File Sorting Method.
15. Pressed the down arrow on the remote until By Date (Newest First) was highlighted.
16. Pressed Enter on the remote to lock in my sorting selection (by date, newest first).
17. Pressed Exit on the remote to return to the Settings icons.
18. Scrolled to the very last Settings icon (it doesn't fit on the display initially and must be patiently scrolled to). (Alternatively, while File Sorting Method is highlighted, you can press the remote's back arrow to highlight the last icon.) The very last Settings icon is the Slideshow Shuffle icon.
19. While the Slideshow Shuffle icon is highlighted, pressed Enter on the remote. (The original firmware did not let me access the Slideshow Shuffle's menu options, hence the firmware upgrade.)
20. On the remote, I pressed the down arrow button to highlight the Off option (a very important step!).
21. Pressed Enter on the remote to lock in Slideshow Suffle Off.
22. Pressed Exit on the remote to leave the Slideshow Shuffle options.
23. Pressed Exit on the remote again to leave the Settings icons.
24. Finally, I pressed Slideshow on the remote. The photos were displayed sorted by date, the newest ones appearing first.

Regarding the pace at which the slideshow displays pictures, there are 3 options: Fast, medium, and slow. These are available through the Settings Slideshow Speed icon. I use the slow setting, but they all work.

Regarding video formats, I've played MPG, AVI, and MOV files without any problem. They are listed and play in the same order in which photos display in the slideshow (newest first, since that is what I had selected above).

I love this product and the price. Only shortfalls are internal memory and military time on the clock

I ordered this one mainly because of the balance between size and price. I wanted one large enough I could see from across the room, but I didn't want to pay $200-300 for one either. This one is 10 inch and I got it with tax and shipping for $91.77.

It worked right out of the box, although it had to be told to use the USB flash drive I inserted instead of doing it automatically like the manual says. I noticed the slide show was only displaying a very small subset of the pictures. I then found it was only displaying JPG's and none of the TIF's, again contrary to the documentation. I had to convert all of the TIF's to JPG's.

It has a remote control. The menu system is a bit obtuse, but once you figure out what to do, it works fine.

That is the end of the negatives.

I actually love it. I can easily see it from my chair across the room. The remote works to pause the slideshow when you want. I have over 600 photos on a USB stick and though it seems to have its favorites, the random slide show appears to be going through all of the pictures.
