With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the VPW5500 is a mere 4.1 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (desktop stand and wall mount not included). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in--wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen--especially critical to keep in mind if you'll be using the set for PC work and viewing.
Connections include composite-video, component-video, S-video, analog RGB, a DVI-I (Digital Visual Interface for PC) with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), and an RS-232C control interface (RS-232 cable not included). You can simultaneously create, view, and customize picture-in-picture, split-screen, or full-screen windows for data, video, and TV signals.

The display is compatible with both standard- and high-definition signals, including 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Please be advised that speakers are sold separately, and you can always use your existing stereo pair, too: the VPW5500 provides clip-type speaker terminals and 12 watts per channel (into 6 ohms). A dedicated monaural RCA subwoofer output facilitates hookup with a standalone powered speaker designed to extend the low-frequency response of your listening system.
