My only gripe is with ViewSonic. As I said, I ordered 3 of these. One of them was missing the "ViewSonic" logo on the front of the display - there were just three holes where the logo should have been, so I called ViewSonic to see if they could do anything about it. The person on the phone said they don't stock the small logo piece (understandable I guess), but I was told that I could fill out some paperwork for an advanced RMA and they would replace the whole unit. I filled out the paperwork like they said and e-mailed it back. A few days later I get an e-mail saying they wouldn't do anything about it after all and that I would need to contact Amazon.
E-mailed Amazon and they had a replacement out to me in a couple days. I'm constantly amazed by Amazon's customer service - kudos to Amazon for being willing to fix ViewSonic's mistake for them.
To ViewSonic's credit though, I've had 4 of these now and not one has had a single dead pixel. The backlighting is pretty even on all of them too.
I would recommend this monitor to anyone who is looking to get a new monitor for gaming. One of my real life friends also purchased this monitor and he seems to love it more than I do. The monitor came with zero dead pixels for both him and I and worked at 120hz straight out of the box for both of us (no drivers needed). However, we both noticed that the monitor was very bright. Sometimes the brightness can make text look strange in microsoft word or a PDF.Read more ›
When I fired up BC2 for multiplayer (with no vsync) I felt a step ahead of other players - or at least on par, seeing as I am a 30-year-old noob. Even my foolish deaths in hardcore mode made more sense. (So THAT'S where the sniper is!) I couldn't believe how much my 60hz monitor was holding my SLI GTX 460's back. There was a bit of a hiccup when the game tried to take control of my secondary monitor. After hitting alt-enter and playing in windowed mode for a while, I tried again, and it seemed to play as planned with monitoring software on the extended desktop and full-screen on the 1 monitor.
Out of the box settings were adequate, but I adjusted my settings to contrast 50, blue 100, red 91, and green 85, so a bit of tweaking does pay off. Adjustments were not very intuitive, even by OSD standards, but I got the hang of it without much delay. It is pretty bright out of the box, but during the day I didn't mind this. At night, I turned it down a bit. Other resolutions and rates don't look so hot, but I didn't buy this to play at them.
I'd rate the build quality and ergonomics average. No dead pixels. The height is fine, and I didn't pay for a height-adjustable monitor. The bezel and stand are glossy, but the screen has a matte finish, which is fine for me. The stand was not as flimsy as I had guessed from the pictures and tilting felt about average (i.e. like you're going to break it).Read more ›
